Need Help on Ghost Rings

I just recently discovered this site after posting for some time on the 1911Forum. I posted this question over there as well, but have not received much of a response.

I recently purchased a Remington 870 Express. It came with the factory installed +2 extension. I think this is the Home Defense version of the Express? Anyway, I plan to add a sling, side saddle, oversized safety, Surefire Light, and Ghost Rings. Sort of the standard fare.

My question is which set of Ghost Rings? In looking at the Brownell's catalog, I see several different versions: Wilson/Scattergun Technologies, MMC, Trijicon, and a few others. Vangcomp has the LPA set listed on their website.

Does anyone have experience with any of these? Do they have tritium front and rear ghost rings? Should one stay away from the epoxied sights and stick with silver soldering or the band as utilized by MMC.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

WJR, the fighting (i.e. tactical) shotguns I have are Wilson/STs. They come with nice ElTejon-proof ghost ring sights--sturdy and simple.

Lots of good ones. I do not like the ones with the "wings" on the front post. In a hurry some people use the wings as the front sight. Matters a lot in ranges involved in HD where, as wise man in Tejas sez, your shotgun is a rifle.

What El Tejon said.

The Wilson/Scattergun Technologies sights are great. Others may be too but I can't see them being much if any better.

the mossberg sights are good, and cheap. (35 or so dollars for both) no tritium, but the front blade is a standard size.

Okay, here is probably a dumb question. Can the Wilson front sight be silver soldered on or just epoxied? Is that something to be concerned about or overkill?

Thanks again,

There are several in Brownell's. With a steel receiver, you have more options. I have an old Remington Model 11 with a square back receiver. I used an MMC sight. The Remington 870 has the round back action. The MMC sight has to be mounted on the flat part, further forward than you may want. Two sights are made for the Remington, with and without night sights. Consider those.

For the front sight, I used a Wiliams ramp and an Ashley Outdoors front blade. I don't like wings on the front sight. The base was soldiered on the barrel. Brownell's has several choices.

I screwed the front base on my mossberg.

the mossberg rear can be mounted on the round part, as it's designed with the proper curve to it.
