The top one, a Colt Commander Super 38, his dad bought it in the early 50's.

We know nothing about it. Anyone care to comment? Is it nice, a collectible? A dime a dozen? rare? I've never seen a 1911 style 38... so we really don't know what to think.

Nice looking pistol. I am a complete neophyte with 1911s, but I'd suggest you ask your question over here (http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=14)...and then let us know what you find out ;). edit: BTW, there is plenty of talk over on M1911 specifically about the Colt in 38 Super.

Ive got a 9mm made in 1951 serial #6xxx are the collectable Iam not a collector so I can't say. It took a while to find one in my area as I buy nothing off internet. I enjoy carrying because of the light weight . I also so starting to become a 9mm fan. 38 super might be a little more scarce than my 9mm. I sure some of the Colt Collectors can advise you on that.

Worth about $1000+ LNIB, $900 =95+%, $800=85% , $700=70% ect.

Very nice carry gun, very nice caliber. I had one in the 60s(paid $200 LNIB:) ) and it worked well!:)
