Out of State Cop carries gun in school?

Went to my daughter's Middle School Graduation ceremony today. Ofcourse I didn't carry even though I have a Carry License as I do believe that is a State Law prohibiting that here in Indiana.
So anyway were sitting there on the very hard bleachers (my butt was hurting badly) and this cop in full uniform walks up & sits behind us. We noticed his Glock , Surefire, etc....and then I notice something else:
This cop isn't even from this state! He's a Louieville , KY cop!
Do out of state cops have a right to go armed in an Indiana school?
If so I really don't see his need to keep his uniform/gear on any greater than my native state Carry License.
Doesn't seem right to me. :scrutiny:

Web, you are correct about Indiana law and school grounds. We do have a "pass through" provision though.
I'm confused. Are you expressing shock at an out-of-state cop in your city? Or, are you inquiring whether this was contrary to Indiana law?

Probably not legal. However in full uniform I doubt if anyone (even the sheeple who probably wouldn't even notice the KY badge in the first place) would make a fuss about it. Out of uniform probably not also (after identified as a LEO). Of course this assumes an enlightened state. Most places on the two coasts (South excluded) and Illinois it would probably be made into a problem (out of uniform anyway).
Not right, just probably reality.

El Tejon -- I'm mostly wondering if that was legal for him to carry in an Indiana school. And if it is I'm expressing out-rage that I cannot when an out of state cop CAN.

You're a second class citizen. Cops anywhere are 1st class citizens....</sarcasm>

I don't know about Indiana but as I understand it cops out of thair home state arn't suposed to carry. I have a friend who is a LEO and he says in his department you can get into very deep crap for it. As far as this cop carrying what can you do call the cops?

It likely depends.
Being a cop outside of his home state confers no special benefits, AFAIK. So, if open carry is legal where he was, he's fine. If it wasn't legal, he's not.
AFAIK.

Open carry is legal (with permit) in BOTH states in question...however this still doesn't address the school question.

I am not a lawyer, but as I understand Indiana's laws, it would not be legal for an out-of-state LEO, whether in uniform or not, whether carrying concealed or openly, to have a handgun on him on school property unless he were there on "official business".
And from WebHobbit's description, it certainly doesn't sound like he was there in any official capacity.
(I'm an Indiana resident who tries to keep up on the laws. That's my only excuse for making the above statements! :D )

"It likely depends"? Hey, what's this? Someone is stealing MY line.:D
Web, Indiana law exempts "law enforcement officers" from the no carry on skul grounds. Question is whether leo from sister state is leo for purpose of our totin' statute (he's not a leo for arrest unless in "hot pursuit", but Article 47 is different) and thus exempted from the law.
Hmmm, oddly this has yet to come up here as I do not get many out of state coppers pinched for this.:scrutiny: I'll try to look it up tonight and report back to the class.
BTW, what was a L-ville copper doing in E-ville. Sure he wasn't Owensboro? Or Lynnville in Warrick County?

An LEO on official duty can carry a firearm. By being in uniform, this LEO may have been acting in an official capacity for his department. Case in point, when the Dummocrats have their "photo-ops" in DC with a table full of evil guns and scores of LEOs behind them to prove that police support gun bans, the LEOs in uniform are armed.

I'm sure it was L-ville, KY. I read it plain as day. He walked right by me.
I suppose he had a relative that was graduating the 8th grade.
And I don't see how this could be construed as an official capacity. No way.
I'll try to look it up tonight and report back to the class.
I would much appreciate that El Tejon!
