Not trying to rain on your parade or anything but anyone with any sense at all would make the 3-gun shoot out at Ione on Sunday. Dont worry about not knowing what you're doing most people there will have little or no 3-g expierence. Get coordinated here on line so you can hook up with someone who has the weapon you dont, and vice versa.

I need to christen a brand new 12FV so the Yolo thing sounds great to me.
Besides, I don't really have the third gun I would like in a 3-gun; this being California and all. For me it would be:
1. tactical 1911A1
2. rifle sighted 870
3. tube fed Marlin Model 60

The 10/22 is waiting to be shot!!!
My 3 gun shooters
1. Ruger MkII
2. 870
3. 10/22

The min requirements for pistols is a 9mm and for a rilfe is .223. Plus you need a holster for your pistol and around 4 mags.
I don't think think you can shoot .22lr in any configuration.

I need to practice at 25 yards, and should be able to make YSA a priority. What time are we looking at ???

Poohgyrr-
ITs going to be pretty hot this weekend. So we were thinking about 9:30ish... or so.
45R
Bamf-
I was kidding about the .22s for three gun. I meet the minimum requirements for the pistol but have no .223s for rifle.

45R,
oh i see, didn't catch the joke.
I'd offer the AR-15 I'm using but I'm borrowing it, so I can't lend it out.

And an 11-87P w/ slugs :what:
And a Tanker Garand.
Would that work ??
Ummm, my shoulder is starting to hurt already. :D
Think I'll go to YSA about 9:30.

CRAP:banghead:
I would like to try the 3 gun match, but will be flying back from LA to go to a stupid wedding. Don't even know anyone at the stupid wedding.
I would use for the 3 gun:
Glock 23C
Benelli M3
AR (with 16 inch fluted barrel)

50 Freak,
Are'nt you comming down with something???? Cough Cough Hack Hack. Take some exlax the day before and beg out. Cash in your ticket $$$. I hated that time when someone "we" knew was getting married every other weekend. That blew. Glad its over. Of course now we have the "some little kid we know is having a birthday party every other weekend".
Sounds like a pretty good 3-g kit although if you get into too formal of a match, or start winning, you might get some flack about to C-model. Unless of course you decide to shoot open class.

You folks with ARs in California make me want to leave this state EVEN FASTER.
God that p**sed me off that I can't own one - BY LAW.

You know Sven, I used to be the same way. Then I went to a 3 match and after watching a bunch of guys trying to keep their ARs running I was not nearly as jealous. If they were legal I'd probably still be in market, but I dont have any real angst about it anymore.

Fine I won't use my AR, I'll use my FAL 16 inch carbine then... would that make you happy then???? :neener:
Or maybe I'll use the 50 bmg for the rifle instead then...
And I tried the "cough cough" stuff. The wife is wise to it....Knew I should have married a blond....:D

Sven,
Try looking at it this way, "they" want us to use real bullets (wink) instead of squirrel bullets (cough cough wink).
So buy a SA M1A in .308 or a Garand in either .308 or 30-06. Unfortunately, Garand prices have gone up in the last few years.
Or buy a Mini-14 and spend $450 to $2000 to make it as accurate as those 20" HB AR's.
Or yup, move like we plan to in a few years.

50 Freak,
I'm telling you man, Exlax. Go out for sushi for lunch today, take some exlax this evening, you'll be good to go in no time. :what:

That would be a waste (no pun intended) of perfectly good sushi!!!! :)

He could always get some of the psudo-sushi from Bel Air or perhaps that nasty stuff from that ghetto-sushi place on Northgate. Then he'd have an excuse for going to Mikuni next time as well as getting out of the wedding and making the match. Its a win-win!

Thanks to everyone that came out to the shoot on such a short notice. We had a pleasant surprise. A HK USC Carbine made an appearance for 5 very surpised and happy people. FAL and AR but the USC was the most fun!
It took over 5 hours to get the smiles off our faces!!!!
It was a good time!
See you all at the next one!!! And special thanks to the people who brought out the goodies!!!!!

That was a whole heck of a lot of fun! The range and facilities were top notch. It was good seeing some THR folks again and shooting the fun toys. How did I miss the USC carbine? What a dullard. I guess I was just too engrossed in shooting teenie weenie little groups out of the brand new savage 12FV. I think I love that gun. Ahhhh <fond thoughts> Whooda thunk that a bolt action .223 would be sooo much fun?
Can't wait to do it again. Thanks again 45R for setting it up.
(And thanks also to Sactown for showing me the right way to benchrest a pistol. :) )
And the Range Office only threatened to put his foot in my <expletive> once. We'll call that a good day. :uhoh:

Yeah, the RO gave me a nice verbal lashing too. I've always thought it wise to not yell at people with guns, but what do I know? Seems like a good way to get himself shot, meaning he's probably going to mouth off to the wrong guy some day. Whatever...
Hey 45R: I put the grip extension on my 27, and MAN what a difference! Wish I woulda done it sooner!!!

Shalako-
You also missed me getting pounded by the 870 on the benchrest. Ohhhhh getting hit in the biceps tendon insertion with the butt of an 870 loaded with full power slugs will wake you up!!! I glad it only took me a little over a box of ammo to get the slug barrel sighted in!!!
That .223 of yours is a pretty sweet shooter. Savage rifles are so underated! I'm glad your birthday present to yourself was a winner! Now you have pretty much every major caliber in Rifle and pistol!!! Congrats!!!
Dr. Jones-
Thanks for you bringing out your "Real Knife" If they melted all the knives I had I still dont think that would be enough metal to make a Strider. Thats a fine knife. A SF would go great with your mannly hunk of steel! Thanks for spotting on the 50 yard range!
That G27 is a sweet shooter. I'm glad that you out the extension on. Probably easier to control that little beast and now I dont have to worry about pinching off my 5th finger.
Hey we gotta grab some din din soon. How does Greek food sound! I havent had Greek food in some time. Let me know what you think
Dr. Jones and Shalako-
I have no idea that the heck the range master was thinking yelling about "shoving this and that into your orifices".........he must have inhaled a little too much smoke in the morning or mistakened you for someone else breaking a rule I observed more than once individuals that had major major infractions such as breaking rules 1,2,3 and 4 and none of these infractions were committed by THR members. Somehow they missed getting yelled at ?!?:scrutiny:
I guess for that guy every young newbie at the pistol range gets the verbal lashing at least once so he can show you who the boss is.............I can summerize that type of behavior as "Not Cool". Maybe he is trying to make the safe people safer and the stupid people dumber......
I've shot many times with you guys and I would say that your shooter safety and muzzle awareness is bar none the best. Don't let the RO get to you.
It was great seeing you 2!
I wanted to say a Special Thanks to SACTOWN for helping me build my 10-22!!!!!!!! Its a confirmed tack driver!!!!
See you all Soon!!

Two things:
1) Shooting off the bench you tend not to pull the butt into your sholder as tightly as you should. This is very important with a hard recoiling gun. I'm guessing if you shot it off-hand with it pulled in good and tight you'd be more comfortable.
2) I dont know where that insertion you're talking about is but the toe of the butt should be firmly planted in that soft fleshy pit just inboard of the delt.

Hmmmm.
Usually the RO at YSA is a pretty good guy.
Was it the guy with the long blonde hair?
Sorry I missed it, but I was at the INDY 500 ;)

My son's hunter ed safety class was finishing up at the range around 10-11. The younger RO did a bit of yelling at them, but nothing out of the ordinary. What time were y'all there?
I might have stuck around and met some of you by accident, but the kid wanted to jet out to get his license and then we headed for the hills to look for pigs.

So beautiful to see a bunch of youngsters learning to shoot! :)

Good for you Malone! That's great that you are able to enjoy the outdoors with your son. I took Hunter Safety about 5 years ago and since then have spent some of my best days out in the field. Now I just need to convince 45R and Drjones to get their license too.
Where were you looking for pigs? I was tempted to go up to Cache Creek BLM land to look for varmints but I had too much fun at the range.
Pittspilot, you lucky dog!
ps. I wont hold it against the RO. He is just doing his job and I did commit a minor infraction. :uhoh: But his abrasive and threatening approach had me thinking for a sec, just a sec, that he needed some manners taught to him... but, its his range and better sense told me to make nicey.

I think he was nervous that day what with all of those kids approaching the bench, etc. Believe me, there were some kids in that group that scare me. I couldn't believe the kids, and one adult, that stood up to do their gun presentation who didn't even know the manufacturer of the piece. After being given the time since the previous day to prepare.
Not to mention sweeping the crowd repeatedly. Some of those kids shouldn't have passed.
[proud dad]Now MY son scored 95 on the written and gave a flawless presentation. His group was pretty good, too, if you don't count the stray that hit his target from the lady next to him... [/proud dad]
We went up to the east side of the Mendocino and didn't see any pigs, but scouted out some good deer country.
