What do you guys think, but before that i'd like to say that the feel of a baby Glock is not an issue. I'm looking for something that will be durable and reliable.

they will both be reliable and durable... glock maybe has an edge up imo, as less safetys and moving parts.. and better finish/resistance to the elements...

but it should really come down to what fits your hand better..

to me, there can be only one... Glock!

My favorite carry piece is a G26. Of course, we can't get XDs here to compare, but even so I think I'd still choose the Glock. It feels good and shoots good for me.

G'day Silent Knight, and et al.,

I can share a couple of points of interest regarding your questions between the two pistols. The XD comes as a kit (in some places). Those accessories might be of interest to ya.

If you have a chance to try both of them, I think you may get your answer. Both shoot reasonably well. However, they do have different handling characteristics which really sets them apart.

I use my 26 for casual (production class USPSA matches) and serious (my principle CCW) uses. I've found over the years, 6+, that the 26 has been wonderfully dependable and stable. It is still very much the same as when I purchased it new. One of my coworkers tried mine out and immediately went to the local gun store an purchased one. Only to come right back out to the range and join me once again for shooting his 26 for the rest of the afternoon. At one point he shot each of them alternating between the two and admitted to me that he could not tell the difference between one that had less than 100 rounds through it to one that had over 10k rounds through it.

Additionally, after trying a number of options and configurations, I seem to keep coming back to what is really close to a stock configuration. The only thing that I really don't like about the 26 in the original configuration is the grooved trigger. It does work well for me and is not that comfortable. No big deal, just got a replacement trigger for a 17 and put that in there.

So other than carrying it about, shooting it at matches, feeding lots of 9x19mms, and a cleaning once and a while, it has been good for me and to me. Your mileage may vary. Good luck in your research. If money is no option, buy them both!

durable and reliable

That's the Glock 26, plus add in accurate.

IMO, the G26 wins. The G26 is easier for me to conceal, plus I like the lower bore axis of the Glock.

I like the fact that I can carry G17 or 19 mags as backup when I carry my G26.

I like the G26 and side-by-side with the XD-9 Sub it's shorter height makes it a bit easier to conceal.

Also prefer the Glock finish.

Glock 26 for me also... Wearing one now as I type. I think the Glock 26 is the brightest star in the entire Glock line-up.

If you care about ccw, that shorter grip is easier to conceal on the G26. And you get that tenifer finish that is tough as woodpecker lips :)

Well first off, I'm a 1911 kind of guy. However, we have three Glocks at our house. I carry a G30 and my wife carries a G27. I do a lot of traveling and would much rather have the Glock come up missing during baggage handling than one of my expensive 1911s. I really like the G27 for summer carry because it so ultra compact. I will eventually get a G26 mainly because I don't care for the .40 S&W cartridge that much. A friend of mine recently purchased and XD and he loves the way it fits his hand and the way it shoots. He continues to carry his G36 because the XD frame size just isn't easy to carry and doesn't conceal as well. In my opinion, go with the Glock.

No offense, but winning the "Gun of the Year" doesn't mean much to me when the very magazine that hands out the award is also handed lots of advertising money by the winner. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's a sham, but it sure seems like it stacks the odds in their favor.

I am another who doesn't buy into what magazine chooses gun of the year. It's all opinion. I bought my first Glock, which was the G26 after doing extensive research on guns for reliability, concealment, and durability. All research led me to the Glock line-up of pistols, espcially the G26 for concealment. I haven't gone out of the Glock line up since. I have a G26 and G33. A Glock 19 will be mine in a few weeks. I can't wait.

I carry a G26. I like the longer barrel and lower bore axis. I use Pearce +0 grip extensions.{83765866-217F-4FC0-A594-3C0F28543A21}&exp=f&moddt=39047.6741302894&ssdyn=1

ive owned an XD-SC, XD service 4", G27, and G19...

in my opinion XDs are MUCH more shootable, ergonomic, just plain easy to shoot, etc, etc. Your finger sticks to the trigger better and it seems to just come straight back with ease as you pull it. The glock trigger is at such a forward angle that just doesnt feel like you have much trigger control when shooting it. The trigger on the Glock can be decent at best with a lighter trigger connector at around 3.5-4lbs. The trigger still feels sloppy, cheap, and sharp compared to the XD in my opinion....even with the aftermarket glock "smooth style" trigger, the trigger safety still makes it uncomfortable. Springfield's trigger is much better, ergonimically speaking.

since i believe practical accuracy is a result from good ergonomics and shooting technique, the XD has the edge over the Glock. I don't bench test my guns, but thats because i only care how they perform in my hand, not in a rest.

The Glock does have the sleeker and smaller overall bulk to it.. it just feels smaller and more concealable, even though it is a bit longer. Also, the barrel on the G26/27 size glock is longer than the XD-SC, so you could squeeze some extra velocity out of your ammo. It also feels simpler than the XD, but the XD's features like the grip safety, loaded chamber indicator, and light rail(althought rarely used on the SC models) are still pretty cool if you ask me.

Go with whatever you like better. Both are good guns. I personally would go with whatever i can shoot better and what feels better in my hand if i could only have 1 gun. For me that's the XD..but since i own both, i find myself carrying my G27 because of its less bulky/edgy design alot of the time:D I'm getting rid of both though to get a SIG P239 SAS w/ crimson trace lasergrips in .357sig and SA/DA...I'd take that over both the G26 AND the XD-SC.

Both are excellent guns. I chose the 26 because it is more compact and conceals more easily, as others have pointed out. The accuracy was an added bonus. I not only carry my 26, but I use it when shooting in a casual center-fire handgun league. The first time out, my scores improved 30 percent over my CZ75B.

If you like the XD better, I'm sure you will enjoy owning one as much as I enjoy my Glock. You really can't go wrong with either gun.

The XD's are very top heavy.. Glock is a proven performer. Go glock
