Which one do you like?

I like the standard and the english stock much better than the regular pistol grip. I tried out the fit of an 870 SP with a pistol grip and its was very akwaurd because im used to regular stocks.

I cant choose its depending on what Im using the weapon for I mean hunting, combat, home defense, target shooting, competition. Be alittle more specific please on the application.

That being said, on a long gun, nothing beats a nice wooden stock. I'm not much of a synthetics kind of gal unless there's a reason for it.

Voted 'regular' stock because that's what I've used for decades.

However. . . . the pistol gripped scatterguns are comfortable, too.

Bottom line. . . . . everything hinges on what I'm doin' with my scattergun!

On a hunting gun I prefer the regular stock over an English---mainly because it give me more control over the gun.

I prefer an english stock for shooting our feathered friends. I like the position it puts me in, more comfortable. Or it could be that gun actually fits.

Straight stock for hunting because it is easier to carry a straight grip gun in the field.

Regular stock for clay targets.

I'm another person who doesn't like the M-16 style grip because it doesn't come to the shoulder as smoothly as a regular stock.

Straight (English) stock for hunting because:

1) Carries more easily.
2) Allows easier use of double triggers.
3) Isn't ugly.

I absolutely cannot stand tacticool pistol grips, worthless afield, hard to carry, and slow to the shoulder. I have no use for 'em. I'm not a turkey hunter. Pistol grips would be worthless and stupid in the duck marsh or upland hunting. And, even if I had a dedicated home defense gun, it wouldn't have a pistol grip on it, too slow. You could get killed trying to get on target with it.

I'm not used to English straight grips and most of my hunting is waterfowl, not flushing game. Standard shotgun grips are what I'm used to and what I prefer.

I've always loved the smooth lines of the English stock, just like I prefer a straight stock on lever action rifles. I'm not a shotgun aficianado by any means, so my opinion isn't worth all that much. But I bought a Stoeger Uplander last year and find that I tend to be more accurate with it than with my well-used Mossberg 500. Maybe it's the double barrel rather than the stock, but I find it just points more readily. Anyway, I just love the look of a fine English stock, so voted that way.

Manufacturers respond to what people buy. So if you look at shotguns today, their stocks reflect what people are asking for. If everyone wanted an english style, there would be a lot more of them on the shelves. Fads come and go but when you look at more than 100 years of shotguns, stocks have migrated in style. It took the advent of the M-16 before American gunmakers started bringing out a few pistol grip stocks. Maybe in another 100 years, they will be much more prevalent. It depends on the market.

The standard stock works for me. I have had a couple doubles with straight grips and liked them, but saw no great advantage. I may do an 870 with one some time just for comparison's sake.

I have had or used a fair number of rifles with PGs a la M-16 or AK. These included an AR, an M-14 with E 3 style stock, a worked over SKS and a Remington 742 with an aftermarket plastic mess. I see no great advantage here either.

Best advice I can give is stick with the standard stock unless you've a really good reason not to.
