I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Galco Vertical system for carrying a revolver. The specific gun in question is a .357 mag 4" barrel.

Here's Galco's page on it:

One particular thing I'm curious about is how the clasp on the holster's retainer strap is. It seems like it's in an odd place. However, any feedback would be appreciated. Even suggestions for other products that might be better.

If I ever decided to get one of these I would probable end up buying the seperate parts instead of getting the complete holster linked to above. I think I would rather have the speedloader pouch over the ammo pockets:

I use mine for a Beretta 92. I really like the holster. It is very comfortable. It is still new so I am still getting used to it.

Pro: Mine appears well-made and is very comfortable. Narrow straps (compared to my Desantis that has the wide staps in the front) conceal well and don't show along the edges of my jacket's lapels like my Desantis shoulder holster.)

Cons: It is not available with tie-downs which I typically use. I thought I would be OK but after using it I would prefer tie-downs. - Actually, there is a tie-down available for the off side (which I use) but I would prefer tie-downs on both sides.

Other comments: The "retaining strap" is not what I am used to. I have a post here somewhere asking advice on how to draw from it. It appears that you can use your finger rather than your thumb. I was using my thumb to release it and then starting my draw. This is not nearly as fast for me as my OWB thumb breaks located behind the hammer.

If you don't need a tie-down for the gun side and you are OK with the retention snap I'd highly recommend it. Perhaps someone else with more experience will address the retention issue.

Thanks a lot John. So there is no tie down on the Galco VHS for the gun side? I don't think I like that. A few years back I had a Galco horizontal rig for a Ruger P90. I had to get a tie down for the gun side on that rig because the gun would push my overshirt open when I leaned over. I the VHS doesn't let you tie down the gun side then I will have to find something else for a vertical shoulder rig.

imho..leather is heavy, creaks, needs more care.and not as form fitting as nylon.
