Dude, ease up on using caps. That's considered yelling on the internet;) Sorry about your Smith though. I'll never be able to afford any gun that expensive.

That's too bad but you just have to chalk it up to S--t happens. I've bought a number of Smiths without any problems so I guess you're just lucky. Yeah, there you go, cheer up, there is a bright side to this after all. You're just lucky!:D
No, you're right, I didn't really think that would work.:( Oh well, I tried.:p

You have my sympathies. I bought a new Ruger SRH that shot all of five bullets before it seized up, even messing up the brass on the sixth round. Emptied the brass, reloaded, and it shot ONE round before seizing up. Had to go back to Ruger.
However, it came back working like a charm, and I think they even smoothed the trigger a little for me :D
You did right having the gun shop send it back. I'm still hoping that Ruger will refund my shipping fee because I didn't think of that.
Good luck, and just think about how much fun it'll be when it gets back. Because it will.

I too have had too many experiences in recent years of taking brand-spanking-new BROKEN guns home from the shop. Nobody gives a darn anymore about quality control.

I feel for you. This just should not happen. You should get some sort of bonus from Smith... like one of their holsters for free. I'm probably dreaming, of course.

Sorry to hear that. its always tough to get something new and it not work right. I have to believe however that S&W will not only make it right but better or at least throw a little extra something in the box when they send it back. Goodluck!

WOW !
If you would have said Taurus there would have been a dozen posts saying what a POS they put out. S&W however is much more easily forgiven for their mistakes it seems.
It happens - just a part of modern manufacturing techniques and the acceptable level of problems that go with it. Of the first small batch of X-frames my little local shop sold in the first 6 months they were produced, two had to be returned to the factory for problems. (2 out of 8 or 10 I think it was).
My friends S&W had to go back this last year. He bought it new and a couple weeks later he brought it too me asking a question. He said the shop he bought it from said this was normal but he wanted my opinion. He opened the cylinder and pushed it to the rear - it traveled about 1/2 inch past the cylinder stop stud on the frame !!!
A small percentage of products will come from the factory with defects. They will typically do a good job in making it right. Not fun when it happens to you, but it happens. It has always happened - perhaps less in the past, but it still happened.
I remember a friend of mine who was a FFL dealer in the late 70's receiving a N frame S&W while I was at his house. When removed from the box it looked typically nice but the action was frozen. We removed the side plate to find that the trigger pin was bent so badly it had locked everthing up. It looked like the exposed end had not aligned with the side plate hole and someone drove the sideplate on anyway.
It will likely give you great service for the rest of you life after repair.

QC is weak all around. New production firearms simply don't go through the same number of hands they used to. So you get stupid mistakes.

My S&W M22A had to go back, not a high dollar gun, but S&W paid the freight both ways. I was not out of pocket any cash as they gave me their shipper number to use at FedEx.
+1 to the if it had been a Taurus virtually every commnet would be "that's what you get for buying cheap crap".
Every maker lets out guns that that shouldn't get out. Its how they deal with it that really seperates them. Taurus service gets mixed reviews at best, rarely a negative about S&W service.

Just FYI.. for repair to a manufacturer, you dont have to take it to the dealer..you can ship it directly to them, and they can ship it directly back to you... you dealer could add much time to the thing, unless they send it right out...

But you, as a non-FFL, have to ship it using whatever carrier doesn't have it's head too far up it's hind parts that day, using special super-duper-double-secret-air-shipping-so-quick-it's-there-before-it-even-left-here rates, while your FFL can ship it using good-ol' Postal Priority Mail for just a few bucks. If I had a friendly FFL, that's how I'd handle it, too.

Had a problem with my new 620 shortly after purchase. Smith immediately sent a return slip and fixed the problem within 2 weeks. This is now my favorite handgun.
Mistakes are possible with any manufacturing process. For me, the key is how well the manufacturer takes care of the customer after the problem is found.
Smith did good. I'll continue to buy their products.

Not quite the same thing but maybe it will ease your pain.
Took my new KelTec P3AT to the range......been shooting it about everyday this week.
Shooting great.....out of 300 rounds I only had 2 failures which I attributed to limp wristing.
Gun is accurate.....
Then just shortly after round 300 I look down and the plastic grip has a monster crack in it from the rear frame pin clear to the top.
3 days....300 rounds and its already junk - back to the factory it goes on Monday.

I thought these things only happened to Taurus guns.:scrutiny:
