My First Blackpowder Wheelgun!

Hey guys!

Been looking for an active blackpowder forum and I think I found it!:D

My buddy invited me to a turkey shoot last Sunday at the local Muzzleloaders club and now I am hooked!!

Seeing how I am a wheelgun nut I have chosen a Ruger Old Army as my first blackpowder gun and it is on the way. I bought the SS version with the 7 1/2 barrel and adj. sights. Being historically correct doesn't really matter to me and the adj. sights are ok in competition.

Anyway, I am looking forward to having lots of fun with it and I am sure I will be asking you guys lots of questions. In the mean time I will continue to look at the stickys and use the search function.

Any comments or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks...Brent

Excellent choice, that weapon will serve you well for a very long time. The SS version is easier IMHO to clean which makes life a lot more enjoyable. Talk to the club members who shoot revolvers and you will get all the info you will need and then some. Shooters, by nature are a social lot and they will gladly share tips with you if you are willing to learn.

Bye the way, I was in your beautiful state this summer and really had a wonderful time shooting prairie dogs in the Zortman area.

Welcome to THR. Got to say you started off on the right foot with the best and most trouble free black powder revolver made. JMHO

The Ruger will give you a lifetime of service. BTW, when I saw "wheelgun" I was thinking wheellock. Gawd, I'm getting anachronistic.:uhoh:

Thanks guys!

Judging from some research today it doesn't appear to be a cheap hobby!

Oh well, what hobby is...:D

Looks like if I make my own wads/lube I may save a few pennies.
