Allow me to introduce myself...I'm a lifelong...and I do mean long...
1911 adherent. I own'em...shoot'em...work on'em, and I think
that they'll be around long after we aren't, in spite of the fact
that some folks consider them obsolete. If they're well tuned and
have proper small parts, they'll work long after a man goes broke
tryin' to break one...I also have a very utilitarian view of the
pistol...it's not a toy to use for playing "Let's Pretend"...It's
not a target pistol, and it surely ain't your friend. It's as
dangerous as a rattlesnake, as should be treated as hostile
at all times...

Other than that, I'm tickled to be here.

About 38 years worth...give or take a month. Before it comes up,
I don't build high-end custom guns. I work with what a guy has,
upgrade and fine-tune until it's as close to 100% reliable as
it can be made to be. I also hold strongly with the belief that
whenever a change is made that goes very far out of the basic
design, that more often than not, three other things must be changed to compensate for the "improvement"...An example
is a heavy-duty recoil spring, used in the hope that it will
protect the frame and slide often brings on a host of other problems...Not always, but often enough.

I also won't do a 3-pound, glass rod trigger in one...4.5 is
just fine, and I'm more comfortable with 5, as long as it breaks clean. Even a little creep isn't an issue with me, if it rolls out
smoothly. A hair trigger in a .45 caliber 1911 is dangerous,
I don't care if it was anointed by the brother of Allah...I've seen
way too much evidence to support this belief. If the gun is used,
things wear, and things change. If it stays in the vault beside
the Rolex and the silver bullion, no problem.

Finally, about 95% of my work is pro bono. I like working with the
guy who did without lunch for 6 months to afford his gun, and
finds that it isn't right. he likely needs the pistol, and doesn't
have the time nor the inclination to be without it for the 6 or 8
week turnaround that it takes (name your company) to make it right. he pays for parts only. I will work with the folks here
via E-mail...phone, or even in person until we get his problem solved, all at N/C.

I hope to make some friends here and help some guys learn to
tune their own pistols...Love of the breed.

Take care, and thanks for the welcome.
