I picked up a used Mossberg 590 the other day. I THOUGHT it was a 590A1 but umm. Well it wasn't. :uhoh: I know you are probably sitting in your chair right now laughing. I was in a hurry and didn't pay enough attention since I was getting other guns at the time and this was kind of an impulse buy.

Now it appears to be an A1 in most ways. Extended Magazine, Bayo Lug, etc. However the barrel seems lighter. Can anyone tell me what all features the A1 has so that I can see about making this one what I wanted to purchase in the first place. I know it had a heavier barrel. but other than that the only other feature I remember is the stamping on the side of the receiver that this one doesn't have.

And yes I know I am an idiot. :banghead:

I bought a .38 S&W once when I thought I was buying a .38 Spl. I liked it and shot it for years. Wish I still had it. Can I Say " I'm a moron too". I can live with that.

Among others, the 590-A1 has a aluminum trigger group, and a metal safety switch.

Mossberg will sell you the trigger group, but ONLY if they do the installation.

I was more worried about the Barrel. Know there is no real difference. But dangit I like being "Tactical" sometimes :P

Nah, real idiots and morons do things like trying to cram 7.62 ammo into a 5.56 chamber, or look down the barrel from the muzzle end, to see what happened to that extra round they thought they'd loaded. :what:
I'll bet I'm not the only one reading that and thinking, "Yeah, I coulda gotten suckered by that .38 S&W thing, too."

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mossberg_590#Model_500_vs._Model_590_vs._Model_590A1), it's the heavier barrel and metal trigger group, but dfariswheel is probably right about the safety, too. If you were thinking of putting the factory heatshield on it, you're better off with the present barrel, so you may not have gotten too bad a deal on that.

Or like my buddy cramming a 9mm into .380 magazine and then proceeded to load it into the gun, resulting in a very stuck cartridge in the barrel. Or the guy who brought .32s to be fired out of his .380 on the range portion of our concealed carry class, and could not comprehend why he couldn't hit the human sized silhouette at ten yards. (It resulted in some very unique brass casings after being fired. They looked like beer glasses.)

I saw a fella's rifle that had the barrel and stock destroyed by firing a .300 Win Mag. in a .300 Wea. Mag. Oh, well, we can all make mistakes.

A review I just read said they were trying to shove ammo for .32 autos into .32 revolvers. "Hey, dese t'ings fit tight."

My comment about 7.62 and 5.56 was inspired by a story an old buddy of mine tells about some guy on a rooftop during a riot. I don't recall the calibers/gauges involved, but he had apparently supplied himself with ammo that could in no way be fired by his particular weapon. Fred says the police eventually decided that "guys like that probably weren't doing too much damage."

Okay, enough with the levity. We're supposed to be consoling Azizza over his "new" 590. :p
