So which agencies recently dumped all their Sig 226s, SWs, etc onto the market?

Yeah, FTFs and stovepipes and a need for "tuning" out of the box. I'm sure agencies would be all over those.
HK's, maybe. Kimbers would be like using a finicky Jaguar that could only use one brand and octane of premium gasoline for a squad car.

Ya they are so unreliable and poorly made that LAPD SWAT decieded to use them along with certain elite divisions of the military. It shows what weapon people turn to when the **** really hits the fan. I love and own HK's too though.:)

Uh, I sold my internal extractor Kimber and bought a S&W external extractor 1911.
Neither gun was/is unreliable, I just want the Smith more than the Kimber.
A lot of those 9mms were traded for new 9mms, the agencies didn't neccessarily upgrade to or change calibers, just the guns they were using.
Illinois State Police is quite fond of the .40 S&W right now but they weren't exactly unhappy with the 9mm either.

It's a non issue for SWAT and special forces because there aren't that many of them compared to a whole department of officers. :)

The Glock 22 is far and away the most issued LEO sidearm, many of the trade-ins come from Glock or from SIGarms as agencies that are,for example, transitioning from P226's in 9mm to ones in .40 or .357SIG.1911's issued department wide are barely a blip in the grand scheme.

Non issue? Numbers don't have squat to do with reliability. Smaller specialized units like SWAT teams, SOCOM, MEUSOC, etc have good funding and can get weapons that cost more than what's issued to rank and file personnel. Just because there are fewer of them doesn't mean they don't need reliable weapons. On the contrary, their weapons are known to be reliable because they actually get to train with and fire them far more than rank and file personnel do.
Back to the topic originally posted. The used market is now full of S&W, Glock, and SIG pistols in 9mm, 40 S&W, and even .357 SIG or 45 ACP that LE agencies/departments have traded in on newer guns. Sometimes they change caliber and/or maker, but many times they just get new guns every few years. You just have to look at the surplus dealers. CDNN, already mentioned, is well known for this type of sales. Others to keep an eye on are www.summitgunbroker.com, www.sarcoinc.com, and www.aimsurplus.com. Sarco and AIM mostly deal in mil-surp firearms, but they do get LE trade-in lots as well so they're worth watching. Guns are quite durable, and with the volume buys on LE trades I think they're an excellent value for a mechanically sound pistol, even if holsterworn.

In my neck of he woods the entire county wide police forces including the university police switched to Sigs in 40 S&W. Prior to their switch there was an assortment of guns and clibers with a majority of 9mm's with some 38 Spec, and 40 S&W's.
