Got me M48! today. It's unbelievable! The action is solid and smooth and the trigger breaks clean and crisp. I had a Spanish FR-8 and this rifle is so much nicer. I ordered the all matching from CDNN. it didn't come with the extras that some provide, but the old WWII bayonet that my grandfather brought back from France fits perfectly. Not that I need a bayonet, but it's good for one on my "hey honey check this out.." to get the old eye roll. Headed to the range. The shop that received it trew in some Romanian ammo to test. I already have a case of the Yugo and a bandolier of the Turk.

Htting the range in the AM! I'll post how it goes.

Good job!
I think the M48's are awesome.I love the buttpad and the wood.Let us know how sweet she shoots.Remember, that ammo is corrosive so flush after shooting.

Hit the range this morning and I couldn't be more pleased. The gun is a shooter. My only prolem is that the sights minimum setting is 200m. Thus, it shoots high at 100yds. I shot 10 rounds of 50+ year old Turk and 20 round of 50 year old Romanian. The Romaniam seemed to kick less. After I retrieve my padded shotgun vest and had the ranges figured out, I had no problem keeping shots in the 4" triagle at 100yds. I haven't used iron sights much and I was happy. This gun is every bit as accurate as by high dollar hunters. She did start to sweat cosmoline. I'll have to see what to do about this.

I think these guns are an incrediable bargin and wouldn't hesitate to carry this gun in the woods hunting.

At the end, I ran three patches soaked in a 50/50 SimpleGreen/water mixture. The first was nasty the last clean. I then followed with dry patch.

One last thing. Stripper clips are cool.

S&B is producing new 8mm FMJ ammo now that I want to try. Costs more but no corrosive worries.

Being a novice to milsurp guns. I thought this baby had been cleaned. They only clean what they can get to without taking the gun down. I totally stripped her down and there is cosmoline everywhere. I found a little lead & powder solvent on a q-tip and rag makes quick work of it. I figure I'll have to go over it a few times to make sure I get all the nooks and crannies. The wood is another matter. The top hand guard is darker and was sweating cosmo at the range. I wipped all the wood down with a spone full of mineral spirits and while wet, sanded it with 0000... steel wool, then rinsed and dryed. Time to research the web. I re-did my Beretta shotgun that had multiple layers of camo-spray paint from over five years to a really nice finish.

I need to order dies, brass and bullets. I want to see what this baby can really do. I'll have plenty of milsurp ammo, but will probably load a box of Nosler BT's for an accuracy test and hunting.

Might sound like of work, but I really enjoy it...

What's next - M44?

Everytime i get an old gun like an M-48,M-44 ,Turk etc.i disassemble it and clean the entire gun with a paintbrush and mineral spirits.I do this at least twice and sometimes like my last Turk i had to clean it 4 times before i got the cosmo out. These old rifles ROCK!!!
