Hey everyone newbie here and this is my first post. Im having a problem with my SX2.

The problem started last year and has gotten worse this duck season. The hammer fires and strikes the firing pin but not enough to make the shotshell fire. Sometimes it does it sometimes it dont and there is no pattern to it. It does it from light dove loads to heavy goose loads and differant brands of shells. I have cleaned and cleaned but it still does it. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Pull the bolt out and push the firing pin. Look at the end of it where it would hit the primer, is it round and smooth? Does it look like a firing pin normally does? If not you have found your problem. If everything looks good....

Have you cleaned the bolt out with brake cleaner? Wet it down, push the firing pin back and forth, wet it down and push it back and forth. Let the brake cleaner drip on a clean paper towel, stop when it doesn't leave any color in the stain. Leave the firing pin DRY. Clean the trigger group out VERY well, I use brake cleaner on mine and have had no problems. Scrub it with a toothbrush and hose it out, scrub and hose. Apply a single drop of oil to each of the pivot points or where you can see something moves in the trigger group. Take a lightly oiled patch and wipe down everything else in the trigger group.

Oil well the contact points between the bolt and the carrier, oil well the bolt carrier rails and the rails in the reciever.

I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner ONLY and have no problems with it.
