N frame holster recommendation

I have never carried a large revolver all day. I was wondering what sort of holster the experienced would recommend for multi-day back-country trips.

Its been decades since I backpacked with my N frame. I used a Safariland Shoulder rig. muzzle end had a belt loop and revolver was hung butt first, muzzle down.
Another option depending on your build is a LEO type belt and holster. I'd consider a flap holster if there was much brush.
I tried putting a holster on my backpack one time, carried well but access was hard to maintain.
I'd not carry a such a big revolver now unless I was paid too.

My 4 inch 29-2 rides comfortably in a Galco Phoenix.

My 4" rides in a Bianchi 5BHL holster which is leather, lined, and has a thumbsnap. This is a belt holster and is very traditional in design. Get yourself a good belt also. Wild Alaska makes (or sells) a very nifty bandoleer type leather holster for an unscoped revolver.

Thanks for the recs. I need to figure out if it would be better to put a belt holster on the waistband of my pack or a bandoleer out front. I will look at the Galco, and contact Wild.

The Phoenix Galco can go cross draw, as well as strong side.

Outstanding holsters at a reasonable cost.
If you are going to carry that revolver in a belt holster, make CERTAIN you buy a good, sturdy belt at the same time. A heavy handgun in a holster on a lightweight belt is a disaster!

+1 on the shoulder holsters. I carry S&W 629 Classic revolvers (scoped and unscoped) in a pair of shoulder holsters. Both rigs are pouch type belt style holsters affixed to shoulder harness. Works great for me. YMMV
Good shooting and be safe.
