So, I went into my local gun shop today to buy some ammo and they just got in a Browning High Power. I've been itching to get another handgun to keep my P99 company and a Hi-Power is high on the list of pistols I'd like to own.

- It's *Almost* new (it looks and functions like new).....it's had about 50 rounds through it.
- Stainless frame
- comes with 2 hi-cap mags
- It has rubber grips (not sure if this is standard or not) and the mags both have a rubber shock absorber on the base plate.

Whaddya' think?? Do I need to go back and buy this one?

I just bought a .40 S&W BHP and paid $559 for it brand new. No high cap mags (the .40 only holds ten anyways), no rubber grips or rubber shock absorber.

I'm not sure what the price was new on the 9mm.

I think the silver color is hard chrome on regular steel.

As or prices: the new HP's are running about $650 - $700 out in the Rape state of nazifornia. As Mr Camp pointed out, HP prices fluctuate. Nobody seems to know when FN is going to build them... they just sort of arrive and then go away.

VENOM: I'm cynical and always get suspicious when a gun comes back to the case after 50 rounds fired. I wonder if the trigger was awful or the thing was blowing shotgun patterns at 15 yards. Ask if they will let you put a couple of mags through it and pass if they won't. Saving $50 isn't a good reason to get sombody elses reject.

If so, that's the Silver Chrome High Power. It's a Nickle finish, not stainless steel. I paid right around $550 for mine new about 5 years ago.

A silver chrome Browning lists for $599 with gold trigger, with 2 10 rounders and a 17 rounder. with all the mags you get, seems like a good deal, for a new top of the line browning.

The next three are all Belgian FN HiPowers NEW.

A blue FN hipower with SFS precocker system Mark III...$589 with 2 10s, and a 17.

DAO FN hiPower blue, with 1 10 rounder, $299 (nice)

DA/SA ambi decock , double coat military finish (?) 1 10 rounder $339 (also nice)

They have the ARCUS hiPower clone for $219 in both standard and compact...I have heard that they are very worthy BHP clones, and an excellent deal for the money...and they look sweet too.

The way I understand it, the BHP .40 would have been an 11+1 round gun with normal capacity mags if the ban did not happen.

Really? Dang, that pisses me off! For some reason I hate having magazines that aren't at their full potential!

Part of the reason I got the .40 over the 9mm is because I knew I would only get 10 rounders with the 9mm and would have to go out and pay $30 for some full capacity ones.

Hello. There are no 11-round magazines available for the forty HP to the best of my knowledge.

The one forty I owned was one of the first and the magazine follower had two legs as is common, but there was a small white plastic extension sticking from both to keep the 11th round from going in.

Later magazines had longer legs by the same amount. I'm told that this didn't happen, but it did. Those are the only ones I saw that had the white extensions. I suspect it would've been too easy to convert to an "evil high-capacity" magazine.

I just saw a blued HP with wood grips and adj. sights at Gander Mountain for $669. I want one but did not even pick it up. It was NIB also didn't ask about the mags. First NIB that I have seen around here. Good luck.

I'd jump at a Hi-Power in the $550 range.
We can't buy them New in MA.
Only used ones at $699-$899, but the occasional honest deal shows up at $599 (used again).

I like the Hi Power, but I love money, that's why I got a FEG PJK-9HP with 2 14 round hi caps last year for $199 NIB.

It now has an extended safety, Hogue grips, and no magazine disconnector all for an additional $80 with 'smithing.

Looks like a HP, feels like a HP, takes original HP parts, and has never jammed. It's my favorite pistol, and loaded up with 15 rounds of Federal Hydrashok 124 grain +P+ (which it shoots very accurately) it represents a fearsome package.
