I didn't know this existed... sorry if it is a duplicate post... But I just found out that there is an activist website promoting the "Newspaper Loophole" - encouraging newspapers to not accept gun ads. We have some work to do here folks. Check it out at http://www.gunloophole.com/

"HOW BEN SMITH GOT HIS GUNS" story on www.gunloophole.com is disputed by Peoria Star Journal.
Peoria Journal Star
“The newspaper reconsidered our policy after [Benjamin] Smith's rampage and we decided that the ad had nothing to do with the crime. It was just an unfortunate set of circumstances.” Tim Rollet, Classified Advertising Manager (Wall Street Journal, Oct. 13, 2002)

I know this is old, but still- the very story they use to decry this "loophole" has been disputed.
Also: Sent a letter to the Ames Daily Tribune thanking them for not bowing to pressure from this fraudulent group.

Dear Sirs,
I was recently looking at the "Gun Loophole" website, and came across this quote.
Ames Daily Tribune
“As a newspaper, we exist because of the First Amendment to the Constitution. We passionately protect the right of freedom of the press. We should be very cautious about trifling with the Second Amendment as well.” Tom Hawley, Publisher (Ames Daily Tribune, April 2, 2002)

I wanted to thank Mr. Hawley for his understanding that the Bill of Rights should not be pecked to death. You cant pick and choose which freedoms are more important than others. I applaud him.

Thank you,

El Tejon

What are the mommies going to do when they discover that guns are sold over the Internet?

I believe they already have. Schumer, Feinswine, et al. were proposing legislation during the latter days of the Klinton admin. I believe that is why eBay dumped gun sales and Gunbroker and Auction Arms popped up to fill the gap.

I wonder if the realize that you can buy a getaway vehicle, with no questions asked and no proof of identification needed, out of the newspaper classifieds.

Close the car loophole!
