H&K's web-site says this pistol will be in full production in the spring of 2003, and I noticed it is on the cover of the current issue of Combat Handguns. But, has anyone seen, handled or shot this pistol?

They have yet to be imported. There was reportedly a few limited series models of the 2000 imported.

According to HKPRO.com, there were 1000 imported sometime last year...and a "modified" version is scheduled for importation around spring this year. The subcompact is supposed to hit US shores by like the end of '03 or '04, I forget.

They look awful damn cool though, I'd probably buy one if the sticker shock isn't too bad.

I think that the P2000 will be available in the summer, i.e., sometime before 9/21. The latest story is that the BATF did not like the P2000 magazine because it could be modified to hold more than ten rounds. Consequently, HK is changing the P2000 for the U.S. to use USP Compact magazines.

Comparison of U.S. and German P2000's (http://www.hksystems.com.au/pages/news.htm)

If you can't wait, take a look at the Walther P99QA (http://www.carl-walther.de/englisch/defense/defense-84.html).

CAWDOR, I can wait, and I like the fact the P2000 will take the standard M3 light. That is something the P99 can't do. I was wondering if this is not "truely" a sign the AWB might sunset because H&K has been on the cutting edge lately. Examples: Develope USP full-size line right before AWB, spend billions on a "caseless" ammo project right before the cold-war ends, and finally bow to the "I need to justify my job(BATF)" right before the AWB is do to sunset.

The irony. I love it :D

I'd be interested in seeing/shooting/handling/owning a P2000, but it'll have to wait in line. I've got other projects that are higher on my list of priorities.

You can't buy one from that guy. He's in Germany. The hoops to jump throught to legally import that firearm would not make it worthwhile.
