My son turned 17 last Saturday. For his birthday he got some hunting gear. This included a new hunting coat, that he got about a week early so he could hunt with me (see: http://ballseyesboomers.blogspot.com/2006/12/ballseyes-boomers-rem-870-in-hands-of.html), a red dot scope for his 10/22, and a Puma Catamount hunting knife, limited edition one of a thousand.
I got the knife through the Sportsmansguide.com for a few cents under $45.00. Not a bad deal. I checked around and the particular knife appears to be only otherwise available in Europe, mostly in Germany at anywhere from 55 to 75 Euros, certainly more than $45.00 U.S..
Well, my wife and I gave him the red dot and the knife on his birthday, and I already knew the knife was something extra special, but it was nice to see the expression on Brendan's face when he realized what was so special about it. The serial number of the knife was something like 160, or whatever, but it also had another number, the number it held in the limited run of a thousand. When I told him to look for numbers on the blade he saw the serial number first. Then I told him to flip it over and look to see which knife out of one thousand it was. He said it was number 17/1000. When he realized the coincidence he beamed. Now how is that for coincidence on his seventeenth birthday! Besides the knife being a beauty, and being a limited edition, that number made it very special indeed.
All the best,
Glenn B :)
