Hooded sights for handguns?

I hear tell of guttersnipe, heine (sp), Novak, and two thousand other kinds of sights for handguns. I never see hooded sights, except on long guns. Why is this?

Silhouette shooters use them some. Dan Wesson comes to mind.

They don't work too well with holsters.

Some Browning Buckmark models have hooded sights to keep the glare of the sun off during hunting or outdoor matches.

Hoods protect the front sight on long arms in the field.
