Do you mean p99? Im not sure what there going for, I paid almost 700 for my p99as about a year and a half ago, which I thought would have increased, since I have heard the as(da/sa) is no longer imported to the US. However I read on here the other day some store is selling them new(I think) for 399.00. Anyway, I know I gave you no help, but if it is p99 and not p990, maybe that will clear it up for someone with more info.

Nope it is actually a P990 DOA made in Germany. It is no longer in production and was replaced with the P99doa Here is a link to it.

Yes, the P990 has been changed to the name of P99 DAO now.

The P990s were on closeout from some sources months back for as low as $299. No one really wants that trigger style, so the demand for the gun is very low. Only a collector who wants all variations of the P99s would probably be interested.

Hey, just use it as a cheap vehicle gun.

What shipwreck said. If you can get $250-300 I'll be surprised.

Either that, or he doesn't understand the differences in trigger variations...

Its not a rip off if nothing is wrong with the gun.

Thats an excellent gun, I haven't seen them in a shop for less than 450$ down here (pre-loved) I'd give you 300 for it in a heartbeat FTF, but I guess you're probably not in Alabama....

but than again maybe I don't know P99 models that well...

"since I have heard the as(da/sa) is no longer imported to the US"

is there any truth to that? i'm actually looking to order two brand new walther P99s(.40 full size, and P99c 9mm). I went to this gunshop today that I'd never been in, and the guy told me that he can order a new P99 for $499. He was also telling me about how they aren't made in Germany anymore because S&W owns them and makes them here in the United States. He said that they aren't as good as they used to be, but this was an expected comment from an "old timer" like him that would always stick with the "original." I knew about the whole S&W association, but can anybody tell me what parts of the P99 were made in what country and whether or not the newer ones being made today are still good guns? I also understand that the authentic German-made P99s have the authenticity "N" engraved into the slide and all that, but if i were to order a new P99 would it have these markings?

So is the P99 AS still available here in the United States brand new?

CPshooter:

My understanding is that the only connection between Walther & S.&W is that S&W is the importer for the all German P99's. S&W DOES (or did) manufacture the SW99 which is basically the same pistol as the Walther P99, only with some parts indeed manufactured in the U.S.

S&W does do warranty work on the German made Walthers, and the Walther P99's come with a one year warranty, while the S&W SW99's have a lifetime warranty. Some people think the all German made Walther P99 is somehow a bit "more desirable", or "better" than the SW99's but I've never seen any proof of that.

Smith & Wesson has an excellent Customer Service and Warranty Repair Reputation by the way.

I can't say whether or not the S&W "sibling" of my Walther P99c/AS is as "good" as my Walther, but it certainly can't be any better. I LOVE my Walther P99c/AS.

About the only advice I would give a potential P99 buyer would be to get a Walther P99 with the AS trigger. It's super. I've heard the AS versions are hard to get, but my dealer got my P99c/AS with no problem.

I would add that the Walther P99c/AS as an overall package is without a doubt the best pistol I've ever owned. (And that's a pretty good pile over my 50+ yrs. of firearms ownership.)

Getcha one - I'm saving for my second P99 already!

Best Wishes,

Yes, U can still get the A/S model - but they are hard to find. Generally, U won't see them on stor eshelves - your shop would have to order them from a distributor.

I have an SW99 and P99c - I finally got my hands on a fullsize P99 A/S at the beginning of A/S.

They stopped importing them at the end of 2005, but then started again in late Spring 2006.

They pulled them again from the official website, however, so maybe they are stopping importation again soon.

If ya want one, and ya look hard enough, U can get one.

Thank you guys are a wealth of info. I am just not a DOA fan so the P990 is still up for trade if anyone wants to make me an offer. Original owner claim he ran less than 50 rounds thru it. He did carry it and there is a little wear on the front sight.
