Has anyone had experience with Boyd stocks? I am replacing a stock and was considering their target/varmit stock. Are these good stocks?

Here is a link Boyds stocks (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/)

I've used a couple of their shotgun stocks, fit real nice. I have never tried one of their rifle stocks..

I think they're great stocks for the money. I've done two of them and was pleased with both.

My son used to work there, running a laser checkering machine.
I have been in their manufacturing facility, and can say that they are a first class plant with very skilled employees, and they make a first rate product. Quality and customer satisfaction are job one.

Got a Boyd's JRS Classic VIP stock last year for my old Mauser, it needed a little inletting just like they said, I'm very pleased with the quality. Gave them a call for some advice on the inletting, and they were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. Good people!

I have that particular stock on three rifles, wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I put one of their stocks on one of my Garands. It was a dead on fit right out of the box. Looks great, but (as I was aware) it is a little bulkier than the "stock" stock. I'm satisfied!

I have used two of their M1 Garand stocks and I think they are great. Easy to install and look great.

I have two, both JRS, both on bolt actions. One is laminated, and was checkered after I finished it. Looks and works real well. The other is plain walnut, also a "Virtual Inlet". Both took a little work to complete the inletting and shape. The price, about $75 for the plain walnut, was right and it was delivered to me in 10 days.

I replaced a Bubba'd P17 with one of their's a few years back and it was exactly as advertised. Minimal fitting and the wood was good.
I have a thumbhole stock on order right now to replace a plastic stock on a Howa I traded for a while back.

Mine with Boyd's echoes most of the above posters. Put one of their laminated varmint stocks on a Yugo M-48 Mauser.

When this project was being done, Boyd's was just tooling up for the Yugo, so it seemed the wait was interminable. But when they finally shipped the stock, it was WELL worth it IMHO.

Bought the "Unfinished" version (means not varnished--the shaping was completely done! :D ) which I'd advise to anyone. These stocks almost always need a little tweaking with a Dremel tool, and anyhow, I wanted to glass-bed mine.

If you're lucky, and your rifle just drops into the stock, and you're not glass-bedding it (a strategic error IMHO) you can still pick the finish YOU want rather than going with the Boyd's finish, plus save a couple bucks. So go with the unfinished stock, always.

After glass-bedding, the stock got abt. 8 coats of cheap local hdwe-sto spray-can spar varnish, with LOTS of sanding before and between coats. Frankly the sanding is the most tedious part of the entire process.

The Boyd's people were VERY helpful over the 'phone and by e-mail, in getting me the exact right stock for my rifle and my wants. 'Phone is on your nickel, but you're the one wanting the advice.

My rifle looks better than I felt I had any right to expect. Nice 'n' accurate, too.

I'd go with a Boyd's stock again in a heartbeat. Contact info: Website: www.boydsgunstocks.com Mail: Boyd's Gunstock Industries, Inc. 25376 403rd Ave. Mitchell, SD 57301 'Phone: (605)996-5011 Fax: (605)996-9878

They'll send you their catalogue for the asking.

Good luck on your project.
