Does anyone load/shoot this caliber? Is it close to the 240 WM? I was thinking of rebarreling for this caliber.- Thanx!

I picked up a slightly used reamer for this caliber about a year ago. Thought it might be a nice coyote/rockchuck round (and a barrel burner too) Haven't gotten any further than that, too many other projects in line in front of it, may be years until I get to it. Want to buy a reamer?

coupla guys I shoot prarie dogs with use 6.5-06. These are their 1,000 yard guns. 6 may be pretty much overbore. May be harder to get the loads down right, but about anything can be done. If you just gotta have one, heck, go for it. Don't have my "Cartridges of the World" handy, but how different is this than a 6mm Remington???

Guess I'd go with the "short and fat is where it's at" trend.

Mebbe 6 BR or 243 WSSM. As good or better velocity and accuracy. Better barrel life.

No thanks Rott, buy I appreciate ya askin. Red, I think the 6mm Rem is based on the 7mm Mauser case, but Im not sure. I agree that the short/fat trend is appealing, but Im thinking of rebarreling an old 8mm Mauser, with a shot bore.

For a rifle that doesn't get shot just a whole bunch (the barrel-life vs. years thing), it oughta do well as a varmint critter. Whitetail/antelope, as well, given the sorts of 6mm bullets available.

Sort of a 6mm Swift, I reckon. Since you can get around 4,000 ft/sec with a 55-grain bullet from a stock .243, a 6mm06 oughta be thought of as Steroidsville.

a "Cartridges of the World" book, you might think about gettin' one (if you're a father, our day is comin' soon)

amazing how many "new" cartridges have been around in a very similar form for a long, long time. Mashburn and Newton made some real barnburners for their day, and ones that would give a lotta "modern" stuff a run

there's an incredible variety to choose from. If'n you're gonna rebarrel, I'd guess your biggest concern would be head diameter and maybe OAL.

Dunno what your objective is, but I'll bet something in there will fill the bill. Have fun
