I'll be spending my summer in Jackson, WY and I was wondering what the attitude is towards guns in that area. It seems like it would be a really liberal town/area.

I did a ride-along with the police department there last year. My understanding of the city is that there is quite literally no poverty in the city. It's too expensive. I got to meet *THE* homeless lady-not *A* homeless lady, but the city's one and only resident sans residence. I got the impression that most anyone living there who worked for a living commutes into town from 20 or 30 miles out.

As for guns, there were two small gun shows I visited, neither of which seemed terribly impressive, but they weren't horrible either, just small. No clue if there's a public range in the area or not. Freedom Arms is located about 30-45 minutes south of Jackson, which is kinda neat. Also, the city does some old Wild West theatrics downtown on a regular basis, using people who I presume to be volunteer cowboy shooters.

We frequently vacation in Jackson, and a while back I did a search on "gun ranges" for that area, and found that there was one, with a contact number/email. I emailed to find out if visitors could use it, received a nice email back with instructions, but our trip fell through and we haven't been out there yet. Sorry I can't remember any of the info, but I searched through www.packing.org.

I can't speak to your specific question about attitudes, probably about the same as most places, with a mix of pro and con.

Have a great time out there; I love those mountains.

An acquaintance of mine vacations there a few times a year. He usually takes his .50 BMG. I've seen pictures of the range he uses. When I see him next week I'll get more info for you. He's a local gun rights activist and he plans on retiring there so it can't be that gun-unfriendly.

Ski towns have pretty good recognizance of the RKBA.

I rent a condo near the ski resorts in Colorado that has a free pistol, rifle, and skeet/trap range operated by the city. :)
