They are 2 different cartridges and can not be fired in the same gun. The WSM's sales started off doing well and were then slowed by the Rick Jamison law suit, but the WSSM's sales were slow out of the blocks and never picked up speed. The WSSMs probably won't be around much longer, so I would pass on that one.

And since I forgot, Welcome to the forum.

well... let us say that for all the supershorts, the 243 really picks up a lot of steam over it's normal counterpart. And someday, we long gun idiots, either very old, or dead , and the new breed behind us, will have learned that these are far superior in design for powder burning and for bbl life.
That being said, this would be an excellent varmint , up to mule deer round. the latter two , i would keep the shots to 250 or less, and or varmints? I would take some across the canyon shots with it.

I agree...the are in a market niche that is already crowded with tons of good cartridges. I do, however think that the WSMs will stick around.

I don't know about the 243 wssm but I purchased a 25 wssm that was a browning a-bolt and everytime I shot it the bolt was hard to cycle, like if I was using to hot of a load; however this was happening with factory loads so I sent it back to browning and was informed that they couldn't fix it and that they would have any more of these calibers available to replace with. I an thinking they are having to many problems with the wssm pressures and will drop this line. FYI I replaced with a 25-06 and BOSS it will be my varmit and whitetail rifle.:fire:

Can you give us a rundown on that law suit?

I have no shooting experience with the WSSMs... but I can tell you that at every gun shop I've visited in the past two years, the WSSM simply does not sell. At all. Full stack of every caliber sitting there, with a fuming salesman ranting about the situation. Two shops I know simply discontinued their sales of the WSSMs.

Doesn't seem they are destined to last much longer. My local WalMart had them around so long, they put them on the red-tag ultra-clearance, and STILL couldn't move them.
