what's the first thing you do when you bring a new gun home?

whenever i bring a new gun home, i field strip it, look at everything to see if anything's amiss, clean it, and lube it, then i function check it with appropriately sized dummy rounds.
I've found problems on two guns this way that were easily solved with a minimum of fuss.
what do you do?

I field strip guns at the store before I pay for them, just to make sure. This is especially true of used guns. When I get home, I detail strip them and clean off whatever goop is on them from the factory (if new). Then I lube like normal. Let the shooting begin.
:D :D like this.
Then what you said.
( a friend said he Hides it...when the missus goes to work he does the above)

Read the manual!
Thence strip, inspect, clean and lube.
Then I take the rounds from either stock or the boxes I bought with it and take it out to the yard, where I function test it.
If it's a new caliber, that means 'till I run out of ammo, usually...

Basically do a little dance, then take it out and hold it and admire it for a few hours -- and dream about the gun range. In the interim, I read all about it and follow the manuel instructions. Before taking it to the range though, I give it a cleaning too.:D

I once took a gun straight from the shop to the range. It worked just fine. Almost all the time, I take it home, take it apart, clean it, glance at the manual, and take it shooting.

Pull a boresnake through the bore a few times, and shoot a couple of boxes of shells to zero the scope. If iron sights shoot to set them. See how well it will shoot with factory ammo. Take it home and clean everything that needs it. Go out the next day or the same day again and do it all over again. Country living is the only way.

I usually glance through the manual, just to get familiar with the controls, and then shoot it. Most times the reading is done when I get to the range.

I gently integrate it into the pack, while watching carefully to make sure that the other guns down gang up on the new member...

"sneak it in the back door and down to my basement lair."
Gunrunning past the wife...hmmm...sounds familiar.
Then, about 11pm I clean and inspect it.
Now it is officially just another one of "those stupid guns".
Shoot it when I can.

Keywords ....... ''OGLE'' and ''FONDLE'' ..............
Then, if new, make sure bore and chamber (chambers) clean and go shoot at earliest opportunity!!
If pre-owned then same - plus ... prolly a strip down to inspect critically.

First fondle & ogle. Like I hadn't already done that at the gunshop!
Read the manual, field strip it and give it a nice bath in Hoppes #9.
Put it all back together, if there are any parts left over, re-read the manual.
Record serial number, make, model and $$ paid and where I got it in an Excel program.
Ogle & fondle some more, get to the range as soon as possible and expend every round I have in that caliber.

Clean it.
The shop I buy my handguns from is also an indoor range that I'm a member of. I never bring a handgun home w/o putting atleast 100 rounds through

Welp, we can't all be gun lovers. Sooooo then I take it lovingly down to the basement, where it gets field stripped and the royal treatment including cleaning, polishing, lubing, working-in, fondling, and generally gawked at.:D Then I'm usually jittery til my first trip to the range with my new baby. Never let it go longer than a week. Usually not more than a couple days.

I field strip guns at the store before I pay for them, just to make sure. This is especially true of used guns.
Went to a local Gun Shop and was going to pick up a Rusky SKS, they had five or six that I had to ask to look at one at a time. They all had those stupid zip strips on the action and the gas tubs were loose. I found the best one and started to flip the little lever thingy, that holds the gas tube, when the old cuss behind the counter barked "if you want to take the @#$# thing apart, you pay me first!" I said fair enough and handed it back to him and walked out. I had bought several guns from the guy and he always asked like it killed him to cut the zip strip off even a revolver for me to check. He sells mostly used mill surp and puts zip strips on everything. :banghead:

After dancing around, chortling, and having had my fill of Bwa ha ha ha outbursts, I file the paperwork, then strip and clean it.
Then I give thanks to the Founders for their wisdom and foresight.
Then I dash off a quick email to the Brady bunch, to give them the raspberry they so richly deserve.

Once I get it home I'll read the manual from cover to cover just to be familar with it.
Then I'll buy several boxes of ammo and bring it to the range as soon as I can.

when you take it to the range, how many rounds do you usually fire off the new gun?

I do the usual cleaning and such, then I try to find a way to display the weapon. Can it go on the dresser? Or maybe mount it over there? Or set it in the corner for that old timey feel?

Let's see...get home, take it out of the box, read the manual and strip the gun (making sure I know how it all works and what goes where), reassemble it, and put it away.
Overnite, I put the first round I'll be firing with my new purchase under my pillow (for good luck/ sweet dreams/ weird superstition's sake.) ;)
Then, I go to the range and put as many rounds through it as I can (normally ~350 if a .22, ~70-80 if anything larger)

Take pictures of it (right and left) and then record all pertinent information about it in my computer data base e.g. make, model, serial number, etc. Then I take it out and read the manual, clean it, and, yes, I fondle it too. Good shooting;)
