Are the "New Model Blackhawk" and the "New Model Blackhawk Convertible" identical guns except that the convertible model comes with an extra interchangeable cylinder?

ie. Can you simply buy a 9mm Cylinder for your NMBH .357 or a the .45ACP for the standard 45LC frame?

I am relatively sure that you would have to have the extra cylinder fit to the revolver by a gunsmith. Something to do with the timing, I belive.

Typically a new model convertible 9mm cylinder will fit in any new model .357 Blackhawk. I've done it with a few standard .357's with no problem, have one right now as a matter of fact. Be careful that you don't try and mix new model and old model parts though as they are different sizes. Obviously as soon as I say they work someone will come up with a story of how theirs didn't so I'm only relaying my experience.


Ruger will normally fit a second cylinder for you if it was a catalogued variation. For example a blued .357 can be fitted with a 9mm cylinder but a stainless one will not as they never catalogued a stainless .357/9mm. They have been known to make exceptions as a few have turned up over the years.
