No use weighing down your new gun with extra equipment. Open sights will be fine for now. Make your final decision after you get the feel for the gun.

I own three .44 magnum revolvers and they all wear open sights.

to Club .44.
I have a SS Redhawk and a SS Bisley Vaquero. Both are sweet shooters. Their Den Mother is a Rossi lever carbine also in .44.
It quickly became obvious that they will push me into reloading.

Yeah! everytime I shot my 629 at the range people are thunderstruck by the sound and fury and magnitude of that blast. That is my favorite gun and was my first one. Its really something to marvel at. The fabulous forty four. I think everything else is just about mundane when it comes to the 629.

do you feel lucky?

You'll love the 44. Don't forget you have a deer load in it and try and head shoot a partridge--my ears are still ringing!!!:(

Try it in a lever as well. It's about my favorite caliber.:)

If you are young enough to ask the question, perhaps you can still use open sights for hunting. At my age, I can see the sights or the target but not both. On the range, this is OK because the sights are sharp against a blurred black/white target but in the field the target simply disappears completely when I focus on the sights. The ONLY answer for me when hunting with pistols is to use a 2X EER scope which puts the crosshairs and target into the same focal plane. Two of my S&W M629 pistols wear Leupold 2X EER scopes. They let me shoot like a young man again. Hint: scopes over 2X greatly reduce your field of vision and are difficult to use in the field.

Good shooting and be safe.

+ 1. If I hunted with a .44 magnum revolver I'd go with a 2x scope.
