On March 19, 1998, federal law enforcement officers arrested three members of the radical group North American Militia who had a .50 caliber sniper rifle. At least two persons have been charged with illegally making and selling .50 caliber sniper rifles. Robert W. Stewart of Mesa, Arizona, a convicted felon, has been charged with felony possession of firearms by being in possession of .50 caliber "kit guns" he was selling from his home.[15]

I notice that the footnotes for these claims are all numbered 15, yet there endnotes only go to 14.Hmm:scrutiny:

While there is no evidence that the .50 caliber sniper rifle was designed for recreational use, its manufacturers have often labeled it as a sporting rifle to legitimize their sale of this deadly weapon to the public. Curt Bartlett, Chief of the Firearms Technical Branch at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms', illustrated just how inappropriate the .50 caliber sniper rifle is for sport when he said, "anything bigger would be getting into the range of cannons."

Well, heck, if the government says so, you can be sure it's true!

I trust the government less and less. The Brady Bunch uses lies and manipulation to further their cause. It, to me, is a clear cut case of good vs evil. The Brady Bunch are a gaggle of lying, manipulating pieces of doggie doo.

Hey, is there any action we can take against the Brady bunch? Call them on their lies, deception and distortions of the truth?

One dealer stated to a GAO investigator:

"You'd better buy one soon. It's only a matter of time before someone lets a round go on a range that travels so far, it hits a school bus full of kids. The government will definitely ban .50 calibers. The gun is just too powerful."

If they truly believe guns are animate, then I say have the guns sue them for slander! :D

I'd give a month's salary to be able to slap that bimbo silly! She is absolutely useless. It's hard to believe anybody can be that stupid about garnering facts. But then if lies serve her purpose, I guess she has no interest in truth.

If people called them on lies and deception and took action for all the times they've lied, they'd be in more debt than the government.

Accurate at up to 2,000 yards (20 football fields end-to-end) it can inflict effective damage to targets over four miles away.

What kind of moron thinks that 2000 yards equals 4 miles?

The .50 caliber was designed with the most exceptional power, accuracy and destructive characteristics of all semi-automatic rifles.

That's such BS, it was designed in the 1910's by John Browning as a Machine Gun round!!!!

Fifty caliber ammunition has more than 7 times the power on impact as the .30-06, 5 times that of the .308

Since when is the .308, a necked down (shortened) version of the .30-06 more powerful than it's bigger brother?

A new .50 caliber BMG sniper rifle can be purchased online for just over $1,000."

Yeah, a cheap POS single shot.

A .50-caliber sniper rifle, smuggled out of the United States, was used by the Irish Republican Army to kill a large number of British soldiers.

Go Irish!

Seven suspects with .50 caliber sniper rifles were arrested by the U.S. Coast Guard in the Caribbean and indicted for plotting to assassinate Fidel Castro by shooting down his plane with their .50 caliber sniper rifles.

This is a bad thing?

I'd like to point out something about the method of argument used by this article.

It is similar to a style used by VPC a while back.

They forego bothering with "guns cause crime", and are merely arguing from the point of view of "guns cause guns"./

VPC was trying to bash bush by telling us how many gun dealers there were (they didn't even BOTHER to link with crimes).

Here, they don't actually come up with anyone actually being shot with the rifle (not that that is justification for a ban). They just happen to find a 50-cal around in other situations. For example, there are some no-goodnicks, who happen to have a 50-cal rifle (and a Sony TV, I imagine).

In some of their examples, they really are "guns cause guns", where they have the presence of a 50-cal, along with some other non-violent technical violation they or those like them lobbied for in the past.

The guy shipped the arms to the Mujahideen, at the behest of the C.I.A., two years before Al Qaeda was formed.

a 1999 report by the General Accounting Office stated that of 27 traces involving the Barrett M82A1 (one of the most popular .50 caliber rifles on the market) 18 (66%) were associated with criminal activity.[13]
Oh crap, they better hurry up and ban these before something gets out of hand!!! Oooohhh, I'm scared of the .50 BMG, it has been used/linked 18 times in 16 years by criminals. O M G!!!

*********S! Find a more useful place to waste my damned money.

What i find of particular interest with that article is that a lot of their statistics cite [15] as the source in their endnotes. But if you take a look you will find that there is NO number 15 in their endnotes. In other words these are coming from an unnamed source and they are dilliberatly concealing that fact. But, of course im sure its an innocent mistake

Just posted on Brady Campaign in response to the mysterious footnote 15.

RE: Brady Research Piece on .50 guns

I note with interest your research piece concludes with 9 bullet points citing specific examples of the use of .50 caliber guns under footnote 15 yet when I drop down to the bibliography section I see footnote 15 was erroneously omited.

Would you kindly update your website to include your source under footnote 15.

Weeeellll, not posted actually because I determined the Brady site has no way to send the organization an email. I can email the webheads but that is all. So tomorrow I'll place a phone call and relay to them my request.

Really convenient, huh?

Edit: I just noticed the Brady site has an online store. Now what do you suppose could be done with a Million Mom March fanny pack?????

After reading the article I ran out to my back yard. Big dissapointment . They stated that the .50 caliber guns were proliferating in backyards and, well..., I want to get me one. But noooooo! Not a single big boomer in sight.

Nope.... No .50 cal. in my backyard either!:(
I'm dissapointed. You can't trust anyone these days.
And - I have noticed the more biased and untruthful a site is - the harder it is to find a way to contact them on their site!:fire:

Law enforcement officers executing search warrants in California, Missouri and Indiana, have recovered .50 caliber sniper rifles from drug dealers. How come the bad guys (there I go being judgemental again) didn't use their .50-cal.-hit-targets-four-miles-away-and-blow-'em-up-real-good-w/copkiller-bullets-blast-o-matic-blast-o-lizers to stop the execution of said warrants?

So why did they trace the other 9? Why is the BATF doing any traces if they aren't involved in a criminal case?

Guess they were just curious.....

It seems to me that the Brady Bunch has once again correlated
criminal acts and anarchy to the presence of a firearm. The
simple fact that it's there is enough to cause a crime, kind of like how flies cause garbage. I
wonder what the statistics are on people trying to run police
officers over in motor vehicles. These are even more deadly because
you don't have to reload them. They are a long range (400 miles+),
high speed (1.2 miles/ minute), automatic, mechanical killers. We
should ban these too because they can just start themselves up and
take off into the night. Not to mention anyone can get one some for the price of $400.
On a note about the 14 out of 15 sources inconsistency, it seems to me that
a current status of unavailability/dishonesty is a good sign of guilt. If you're telling the truth, you shouldn't have to hide anything. :cuss:

Now that's what I call twisted logic!!!

its simple..if they cant ban the guns, theyre going to ban something or try as they may to make it impossable to get ammo(taxes) or sue the manufactures into bankruptcy.they will do whatever their clever little minds can fanatize about to bring about reduced gun ownership nomatter what means they can muster.:barf:
