It must have been fate

I went to the store to look at an S&W 340PD, used to have one and wanted to get a new one. Well I tell the guy I will take one and he goes to get one from the back.
When I got home I went to write the serial number in a book with all my others and I saw that the first three letters are my initials. I guess I'll never be able to part with it.

... I am a civilian federal employee (DoD); all federal positions that are related (engineers, accountants, IT specialists, etc) are identified by a 4 digit occupational code. Well, the last 4 digits of my S&W 642's serial number exactly match my 4 digit occupational code. Did I mention that I really like my 'lil snubby and will never part with her?
Come to think of it, I used to own a Taurus 66 357 Mag that had the digits "357" in the serial number.

My social security number has numbers in it too just like my gun's serial numbers have numbers. Numbers are reason enough to buy and keep guns. Coincidences like your initials or federal occupational code sound like a real plus.:)
