Marlin 94...Which Scope?
Essex County

Just picked up a Marlin .44Mag and I have decided to scope it. At the present time I have a K 2.5 Weaver Classic, a 2.5 Leupold and a 2X7 3200 hanging around not earning their keep. The 3200 has the Rainguard feature which I think is a great feature. Which would you choose and why?..Essex

I'd use the 2x7 as it is about the same size as the 2.5 powers. For deer the 2.5 will work just fine, but for shooting smaller targets at 100 yds or so, the extra power will come in handy.

Opposite. The Marlin is a trim handy arm; put a compact low-powered scope on it. Assuming all these scopes have the "duplex" type or standard crosshair reticles, I would choose the Leupold 2.5x.
A 2.5x ought to be adequate for anything live you want to shoot with a .44. A low powered scope can be very effective a ways out if you can see what you are shooting at.
Heavy .44 loads from the 94 are going to be on the brisk side - Leupold will fix or replace that scope for free if it comes apart or otherwise fails.

+1 on the 2.5x Leupold. A fine scope like that should be in use.

Well, if you decide to 86 the Bushnell 2x7, be sure to put up for sale on our board here. I'm looking for something to put on a Marlin 30-30.
