I purchased a used Colt Single Action Frontier Scout 22 LR way back in 1966 for about $35. The frame is aluminum and the barrel and cylinder are blue steel. I would like to determine the age of the gun. The serial # is 3370XX. The only problem when I got it was it had been dropped during the previous owner's quick draw practice. The forward part of the trigger guard was cracked all the way through. Can this be repaired?

The Frontier Scout model was one of Colt's less successful efforts to compete with Ruger's Sngle Six. They did however, use it for the basis of a large number of limited run commemoratives.

I believe your serial number ends with the letter "K". If so the revolver was made in 1968. $35.00 was probably a fair price, but not by much... :neener:

Anyway, the broken part is made from a zinc alloy, and is probably not repairable. It is called a "backstrap," and a new one might be available from Numrich-The Gunparts Corp. at: www.e-gunparts.com

Expect to pay more then you did for the gun.

A revolver with a serial number ending with the letter "F" would be a Frontier Scout (Q model). The "F" suffix begain at #16,521F in 1958. They ended in 1970 at 245,423F. Revolvers made in 1966 were in a number range between #193,250F to 210,499F. Serial number #337,0xxF is out of the serial number range. Serial #33,700F should have been made in 1958.

Hopefully this will clear up your question.

You are almost on top of the serial # which would make it a 1958 production gun.
Thanks for your help.
