My brother came to me, asking for some guidance. But I'm at a loss, and so turn to you all.

He and some fellow employees want to buy their boss, who's about to retire, a handgun as a retirement gift.
They want something that comes in a presentation case and tops out around $700. Does anything come in presentation cases anymore? Especially anything around $700.

They live in Kalifornia, so it'd have to be okay to buy out there.

Thanks,

Tuckerdog1

Generally the guns sold with presentation cases are going to be the Investment Arms Commeratives type product and will cost signicantly more than $700. Their best bet is to buy a presentation case separately.

I don't have the web sites here at work but there are several good woodworkers who make display cases for pistols. Also a couple of sites that sell factory made cases that appear to be good quality, try google and see what comes up.

In California, one can't buy a handgun for someone else; the recipient has to go through the aquistion process. A handgun may given or sold to one's offspring or parents, but you could not give or sell a handgun to your sister or a friend legally. All sales and transfers have to go through federally licensed dealers. Exceptions for CCW holders, LEOs, and military personnel are mentioned in the booklet I read prior to renewing my Handgun Saftey Certificate.

One of your group would need to go through this process, then take it and your boss to a dealer. The dealer would be required to hold it another 10 days before your boss takes possesion. Kind of takes the fun out of Christmas. Good luck with the red tape. Oh yeah, both the interim recipient and your boss will need to pass the 30 question test (70% or better) to get the required Handgun Saftey Certificate before the purchase and transfer begins. Mine cost $25, which goes to the California Department of Justice.
