Oh...My...GAWD! Hide those before the Old Fuff sees'em! He ain't gettin' any younger, and he'll likely have a butt-hemmorhage...:D

Meanwhile...Here are three of my pretties that I happen to have pictures of.
Top is an original 1919 USGI Colt. One of the last 2500 that Colt shipped.
Bore is clean and bright, with rifling almost as sharp as the day it was made.
Have fired a 2-inch/25 yard group through this one from the bags with PMC ball.

Second is a minty 1945 production Remington Rand. As nearly new as any that I've ever seen.

Third is a reblued, but mechanically near-new 1925 production Colt commercial Government Model.

I have more, but the post is gettin' a bit crowded.

Very nice, Tuner. Question: Are those original grips on the commercial Government Model? I have a 1933 commercial Government Model (You can see it in the picture I posted above) that came to me already having had a bad reblue (if you can even call it a bluing job, since it looks more like a matt black) and wearing plastic GI grips, which is all wrong for a commercial GM. Would like to find a pair like you have there, assuming those are original, or like the originals that came on the guns back then. Any advice?

Those are the original grip panels...and up until about a month ago, I had a set that I swapped for a set of double-diamond walnut panels over in Randleman.

You can get a set of full-checkered mahogany grips from Brownells for about 18 bucks without the gunsmith discount...or $14 with the discount. A little
roughin' up...a dark stain, and some boiled linseed oil...and they'd be hard to spot from a distance unless a real ringer is lookin' at'em.

Did somebody say...High Power?

Early 70s production Browning. Tryin' to negotiate a deal on an early 40s Inglis with tangent rear sight and the...*ahem* original/as-designed internal extractor. This one's a shooter. As accurate as any I've seen...at least in my hands and with my tired, old eyes...and as near as I can tell, it'll chamber a brick.

JonP...That Colt was born before 1925, mah fren. The 1925 had all or most of the "1911 Improved" or A1 modifications, depending on the exact production date. Scalloped cuts behind the trigger guard...Arched mainspring housing...Short trigger...Long grip safety tang, etc. Yours is pure slabsided 1911. PM me with the first 3 digits of the serial number and I'll try to nail it down for ya. Scroll up to Post #7 to see a 1925 commercial Government Model and note the differences.

Nice rifles, by the way. I'm an old '03 fan myself.

Hell, everything I own is a classic. But I don't think we've seen a Luger yet. For my 21st birthday my mother bought me a 1918 stamped DWM P08. It was stolen in 1987 with all my other guns but I found another one almost the same except it had some unit markings on the front strap. They translated into a police unit in Wolfsburg. I had this pistol out to the range last week and it put four rounds into an inch at 15 yards with a flier opening it up to a hair over two inches. Not bad for an 88 year old pistol.

Ah...

The exceedingly rare and ever so elusive Galesi pistol........

Each handmade by an Italian artisan in a small shop in Merde'galesi, Italy. Only 55 produced, and less than 7 brought home by GI's returning from the Italian/Sicilian conflict of 1965-66.

Purchased at great expense from the estate of one of those very soldiers with the caveat that it would never leave my possession until death darkens my sight and my breath has left my mortal coil.

Upon my demise it will be carefully and lovingly wrapped in a small bed of otter feathers and dropped over Lanes Bridge into the turbulent waters of the awesome Altamaha river..........

Never to be seen by the eyes of mortal man again....

JP

P.S. Of course if I get a legitimate offer exceeding $17.00 I might consider parting with it.

S&W M1917, .45 acp. This gun left the factory in April of 1917. Some homegunsmith tried to convert it to .45 Colt and mucked it up. Gene Williams of Texas rebuilt it for me. A decent shooter.

Hawkeye, I could spoil you, but I won't. So last up two classics of a different type.

Colt Combat Commander built by Bob Chow of San Francisco, master class bullseye shooter and former member of the Board of the NRA. Old school gunsmithing from back in the early 80s. Note the S&W K frame sights fore and aft.

Nope not real ivory, they are from Ajax if I remember right.

Xavier, How's that Whitney shoot? Those Herritt's look good on the Ruger by the way.

Below a Radom Vis from the first year of the Nazi occupation of Poland. IMHO one of the best 9mm service pistols ever made.

Xavierbreath, I have a Pocket Auto exactly like yours. You can see a picture of it in my first post. Great guns, aren't they? Everything is so precision in it. Just shot mine yesterday, in fact, and it's dead on, making tiny little groups in the bullseye at seven yards like a target .22.

One problem that I have been having is the mag latch on the bottom of mine occasionally sticks so I cannot open it quite enough to remove the mag. Had to take it in to a 'smith twice to get the mag out. Smith takes it in the back and fiddles with it until he gets it out, but doesn't really fix anything. Any clue as to what's going on there?
