Hello this is my first post on this forum, so here goes. I have an older RCBS single stage press and I've found that if I try to use shell holders made by other companies the are just barely to large to fit the slot. A friend of mine at work said that he had found the same to be true, but others said that they will fit if you try a little bit . Mine wouldn't drive in with a hammer! Is this just a problem with my press or is this a devious plan by RCBS?

I would dress them down with a Dremel or something similar quick and not worry about it. They are quite hard, a file is only good for polishing them.

In the future buy RCBS, they are the same price as anything else aren't they?

Clean out & polish the notch where the shell holder fits in the ram, it oughta fit. I have the same press, and use a variety of shellholders in it. Maybe there's a burr knocked up in there or something...

I had a problem with Lee shellholder #19. It was supposed to be for the 9mm and the 40, but on occasion, a tight 9 would get the rim peeled off on trying to extract it from the carbide resizing die.

A very helpful forum member advised me to get an RCBS #16 which is considerably tighter on the 9. A 40 will not go into it.
I believe Lee was a bit lax in making the shellholder for both calibers when they are so far apart.

Back to the point of the post, though, both shellholders fit beautifully in the Lee ram.
