OK....my 1 million round Ruger 22/45:rolleyes: was finally due for a real cleaning....So instead of borrowing the brush that I usually borrow to clean my 22 rifle, I went and bought a 22 bore brush...Bore brushes are supposed to be tight right??? All my others for other calibers are....Why is this one so loose? Is this a manufacturing defect, or are some bore brushes just real loose in the barrel?

Im sorry I cant give a brand name...but i threw away the package, and just put the brush in my cleaning case before I realized how small it was...

Anyone have this problem with a particular brand of bore brushes?

Unless you ended up with a .177 cal brush in the .22 cal stack , I dunno.

I never put a brush through my 22/45... I used a patch once when new, I q-tipped the chamber, pipe cleaned the extractor-I think...What is this "Clean" people do.;)

Ya...I know what you mean...I have put thousands of rpunds through the 22/45 without a hitch, and without anything but lead down the barrel.....I have been afraid to clean it for fear of washing away the MOJO...

But a couple weeks ago I put some questionable russian junk ammo through it, and I had no idea if it was non corrosive or not...all of the box markings are in russian.

So that is when I decided I had better give it a bath, MOJO be damned.

Well, it still shoots straight, thank god....I took some beer cans @75 yards using a bipod and open sights last friday...so I guess the mojo is still there...


BTW, yes, I said a bipod on a 22 pistol...tons of fun, you should try it.

It it were me and the concern was corrosive ammo, I'd use hot soapy water and patches only...using an Otis pull through kit. pull through a few times , with a new patch each time. Rinse with HOT water to flash dry , and ever so lightly pull a patch with machine oil , pull a dry patch through.

Next time out burn a few mags to foul bbl and forget about it.
I'd steer clear of questionable ammo also.

will using a brush on the bore really damage it enough to degrade accuracy? It is apparrent this is a concern of yours.

I use brushes like crazy on all of my other pistols.

Ok in case you didn't know I'm the bad boy when it comes to cleaning...especially pistol bbls. I flunked Cleaning 101 and Dave Mc had me writing on the chalkboard...I got cramped hands,still coughing chalk dust and if Dave reads this, guess who gets to start writing again :D

I used to be a clean freak. Then I researched McMIllian, Schuemann, Volquartsen (sp?). Then with my gunsmith , & what I saw, and what he was told by some bbl makers for some custom guns...I became a rebel...err, I added something else to my rebel ways.

In a pistol bbl there is not the pressure as in a HP rifle. Especially in a 22 lr pistol bbl. I worry more about chambers, extractors, and the external finish due to climate (humidity).

Check Volq. site, he voids warranties if a brush used on 22lr.

Just my view.
I hopeDave doesn't see this...I hate writing on chalkboards...;)

Can you give more details as to the type?

RE: brushes - I use one on all my .22's, YMMV.
While the fit isn't ultra tight it does take some pushing to get the brush into the bore. It does sound like a .17 cal worked it's way into the wrong pile.

Got one of these jobby's....picked it up at a gun show years ago real cheap...it is just a big clothes pin that clips onto the barrel really.....I love it for my plinking rifles, and every once in a while it finds its way onto my 22/45.

How well does that bipod hold up to barrel heat? I've been interested in getting one primarily for my K2.

Not real sure about that....I have emptied 20 round mags with the AR15 and it hasnt melted...

who knows...git it a try, even if it does melt, you are only out 6 bucks or something line that.
