Death is not pretty

A dead animal which was killed while hunting respectfully with the proper mindset can be beautiful. That dead animal represents the culmination of hours of work and research, a connection with nature, and the ability to provide for ones needs off the land instead of a grocery store shelf.

I call that beautiful.

Rick O'Shea
December 19, 2006, 10:54 AM
True, but I'm not sure that was his question.

An animal (or human) shot through the thorax will have blood in the lungs which will be expelled with the final breaths.

A good single shot in the "kill zone" (heart/lung area) will often produce this, so the pictures you're seeing probably indicate skilled and responsible hunters.

kd7nqb,
I'm assuming you mean the animals have blood coming out, not the guns. :neener:

I'm not a hunter either but as I understand it a good hit in the right area causes hemmoraging in the lungs and the blood is expelled with the last couple of breaths. All that visible blood upsets some people (especially those who have no idea where meat actually comes from) but I've been told it is actually proof of a good clean kill that dropped the animal quickly.

Edit: Hah, Rick O'Shea must have posted while I was typing :D

Respectfully acknowledged. But many people have no problems eating meat that comes wraped in plastic and cellophane from the grocery store but don't like to think about how the animal got there. I'm a hunter and greatly respect and appreciate the game I kill. I don't know that I'd call the kill beatiful, but it is a blood sport no matter how you look at it and the end result is something is dead. Too many people have lost the connection between game in the wild and meat on the table. I'm also way off topic here but didn't want to be misconstued as a anti-hunter.

Well, the price was so good, I just had to go ahead and get two. I almost got three, but decided that was probably overdoing things a bit.

Easily the best deal on AK style rifles I've seen recently.

Let's see if we can't do a couple more. I need to get better lighting for picture taking. You don't want to use flash when taking gun pictures, but if you don't have enough ambient light, your picture is fuzzy.
