Are there any pump shot guns made that will fire as fast as you pump them if you hold the trigger back? If so who makes them. Thanks in advance

original winchester M1897's and M1912's will do that. but its not that great for the gun. original Ithaca M37's will allow it aswell. how ever all 3 of these guns are more Collector pieces than HD guns, and will cost a bit more.

chinese reproductions of these guns do not allow "slam fire" ( pumping the action and holding the trigger)

Note that this is not necessarily a desirable feature.

If you ever really use the gun for HD, under stress, you don't want to waste all your ammo with unaimed fire.

The real benefit of this feature is found in two scenarios:

1. The movies, where ammo never runs out and normal rules of hitting or missing don't apply.

2. Shooting a line of pumpkins or other similar fun but frivolous applications.:)

The Ithaca M37 comes to mind.

You can probably find a good condition, fairly recent, field grade Winchester Model 12 for $250 or so that will perform as requested but as pointed out there isn't that much real practical value. I notice that the early Model 12s were used by the military as a "trench gun" which I assume means it was useful in clearing out an enemy trench which would be a confined space full of targets so precision aiming wasn't necessary.

With practise (which is always a good idea anyway) you'll be able to fire a modern pump like an 870 or Mossy 500 as fast as you're likely to need.

My Ithaca 37 does but it isn't of any realistic use.
Aiming the gun as you're going forward with the slide doesn't make for accurate shooting.

Mostly the forearm just pulls out of my hand when it fires.
Hand and arm going forward as the gun is recoiling back.

I have a Ithaca 37 that will slam-fire. You are just spraying lead when you hold the trigger and cycle the action. It is very hard to hit any thing when you are doing that.

Note there is also more of a safety issue when you load your chamber with live round. If there is problem with the trigger assemble, the shotgun will fire without touching the trigger. That never happen to me but it is allways possible.

joab,

I hope your planning on doing that outside, as I doubt your mother will be happy with you making all that noise and a big mess inside......:D

Ok
I just went through all my shotguns
870, 1200, and old Savage all lock up if the trigger is held

Norinco 1897
Hammer falls with each pump and slide does not lock
So it is possible that it will slam fire if there is no other mechanical safety that I can't think of

The 1897 Trench Gun was designed to do that....

You hold the trigger down while acuating the pump to fire so has to fire each shell as it is chambered. Pretty devistating in trench warfare or other close quarter combat.

And when the slamfire has exhausted the shotgun's capacity in its dramatic demonstration of unaimed firepower, the shooter takes a few moments to recover, surveys the wreckage before him, and leisurely reloads? :)
