One of my good buddies has one of these great rifles. After dropping a ton of hints my girlfriend ordered me one for x-mas!!!!! What a g-friend huh? I cant wait for it to get here.

Has anyone read Target Switzerland? So far its been a very good read. Its about the tradition of marksmanship and individual freedom and the reason they were given relitivly wide berth in wwII.

Target Switzerland is an awesome read! I've checked it out of my library and read it through twice. Its on my list of books I must own.
With the exception of the pricey 7.5 ammo, I am certain you will enjoy your K-31. Its accurate, sturdy and its a sweet-looking rifle.

Yeah... that IS an interesting read. From what I understand, there is a lot of friction right now between shooters and anti-shooters in Switzerland right now. They have shooting clubs going back -hundreds- of years. A fine tradition!

I'd google up the swiss rifle forums and read everything you can. There are a couple of easy ways to get that very good rifle shooting even better.

I've got two of them....no wait...three. One is with a Junior. No wait...he's on the AMU team.

To make a side note on this, I will be visiting Switzerland next summer, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the gun laws there? For instance, are fully automatic weapons legal there? Would I be able to show up at a range and do some shooting there even though I am a U.S. citizen and not swiss? What are the laws on shipping a firearm back to the U.S. with me? Any knowledge on this is greatly appreciated.

I love my K-31 by the way and congratulations on getting one.

One of the guys there may be able to answer your question on laws in Switzerland. Some of them have gone there and purchased things (rifles, bayonets, accessories, etc.) for group buys here in the States.

It arrived....Im completey satisfied with the shape it is in. The metal is in probably maybe 90% of the finish left. The wood is in good shape for a 56 year old mil surp rifle. I dont have to tell you abou the bore. The wood has nice flaming on the left side (beech). It was made in 1950 from what I can tell. The bolt and stock are both stamped 49.

There is a tag under the buttplate. I dont know german so Ill post pics so see if anyone can figure out what it say. It does include the serial number and caliber of the rifle. That makes this already interesting rifle that much more interesting. Im not at all unhappy this was a cold war rifle...communists right next door would make for skittishness and preparedness I imagine.

I took the boys out shooting today to shoot our new xmas presents. I got my youngest son a Savage Cub. Im very impessed with this little rifle, Ill start another thread about it.

My oldest son got to shoot the Model 12 that was handed down to him. Still functions flawlessly as I knew it would. Great for a well used 66 year old gun.

The K31 absolutey astounds me. I wont believe how accurate it is until I get more ammo and shoot some more. I started at 50 yds as several people have told me the rifle will shoot about 3' high at 100 yds. It shot about four inches low at 50 yds and three shots were all inside a couple inches. I shot while seated at the bench with my elbow resting on the bench. It shot about an inch low at 100 yds and again, the bullets all were inside a few inches. At 150 yds it shot about three inches high and the bullets were all withing three, three and a half inches. Heres where It gets good. I hade a ten round box left. I shot like I had been with my elbows resting on the bench, the rounds all landed within 5 inches. I then stood shooting rapid fire offhand for three rounds at a 2' square steel plate, striking it every time. I let the rifle cool for a few minutes then put the rifle on a sandbag and really took my time with my breathing and trigger control. I could not believe my eyes when I approached the target and again, I wont beleive it until I can do it again, all 4 rounds went into 2"!!

I was impressed with the rifle even prior to shooting it. It could have shot like most mil surp rifles Ive shot and I would have been happier than a pig in poop just becuase of the fact that it was a gift from my girl, the workmanship and the story behind these rifles. Ill never part with this rifle. As many will attest Ive shot scoped custom rifles with handloads where Id be very satified with an MOA group at any range. This is a 56 year old military rifle, with steel jacketed military ammo that is 28 years old! Open military sights...I just cant believe it.

The straight pull bolt..I thought would take some getting used to. Its just slicker than whale snot, just a little tilt toward you and you can see how many rounds are left. Definitly a rifile made for a shooter. Wow.

That's the K31 for you. Even at twice their going price they'd still be a steal.:)

Congratulations on getting your K-31 and great shooting! :D
You won't regret owning this rifle. Before long you will be thoroughly infected with "Swiss Fever".

Another nice thing about the K31, is that their "surplus" ammo is all match grade and non-corrosive. Go Swiss!

Just wish the Swiss would quit fooling around and ship the rest of their surplus ammo over here. Pricey ammo is one reason I don't shoot mine more. :(
