Single action holster?

I recently acquired a Ruger Blackhawk & Super Blackhawk. Both are 4 5/8".

I do not have any prior experience with single action revolvers.

What holster do you recommend for exposed carry? I do not want the "cowboy" look. I would prefer a modern design.

The best belt holster I have found for a Single Action is PS6-SA from Mernickle Custom Holsters. It is designed as a concealable belt holster and it is of high quality. They also have several holsters for hunting purposes that may fill the bill for you. Here is the link:

Take a look at a "Tom Threepersons" style holster.

El Paso Saddlery & San Pedro Saddlery make nice ones and there are a few other copies floating around. It's a good working holster for SA's.

I recommend the Desantis Dual Angle Hunter holster. I have a Colt SAA (4.75" barrel) and have the Dual Angle holster. It's very convenient. It can be worn strong side carry, as well as cross draw carry. The cross draw carry is very comfortable, particularly when sitting down in a car, etc.

The holster is well made, and offers good protection of the firearm. I really like my holster. It's not a custom holster, but it works well, is made of good quality leather, and doesn't cost too much. It has a thumbsnap to help retain the gun, but it is also easy to draw the gun quickly if required.

I also had one for a 5" barreled Colt SAA clone that I once owned.

I believe that Desantis makes this style for many large revolvers.

whiich is what they make....but certain ones fit the Rugers also. Just call and ask them. Prices are reasonable.

I would have to second mernickle, they are certainly my favorite and I have been known to carry a sherrifs model concealed.

Drive down to Mexico and have somebody do one up, Mexican leather is one of the few advantages to the border areas.

Nothing better than the Tom Three persons from El Paso Saddlery. Ol' Tom himself designed these for high and tight open carry of SA sixguns and they're still as good today as way back when. And of course the leather from El Paso is scrumptious beyond description.
For carrying the Tom3P holster take a looooong look at EPS's chap leather gun belt too.
