M&P stiff slide release

I finally got my M&P 40 paid off (crunching the budget to do it :D ), and am waiting to get a free moment from work to take it out to the range. I love the feel of it in my hands. I've already decided to go with the finger mag release setup (thumb on lefty. It's not like it's hard to do). I liked the way they chopped the magazine front a bit to ensure a good strip. My Sigma always snags on third round left in the mag when I'm emptying by hand.
Anyway, my slide release is really stiff. The contact edge of it is really sharp. I imagine I'll have to have it ground just a touch and polished to smooth it out. Anyone else had the same problem?

I usually don't use the slide release, to be honest. If the mag is full, I just grab the slide and push the pistol forward a wee bit, then let go of the slide. If the mag is empty, I drop the mag and repeat the above motion.
Seems to work.

It's a slide stop, not a slide release.
Sling shotting the slide is the appropriate way to release the slide.
To close the slide on a empty magazine, just pull back the slide a bit and push down the slide stop lever.

Which releases the slide. They're checkered for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I agree that sling-shotting or over-handing the slide is in most ways and under most circumstances the superior method for chambering a round, but the thing does "release" the slide, as well as "stop" it from going into battery, depending on the state of the pistol and the direction in which it is pushed. I guess my point with this post is that I'm tired of watching my tongue when talking about "slide stop levers" vs. "slide releases". Obviously, in most pistols that have one, they perform both functions, and were clearly meant to be able to perform both functions by pistol designers, whether or not returning a pistol to battery by their actuation is the ideal procedure. However, terminology aside, good points generally.

Thanks. I've ended up doing that naturally. I was more interested in knowing that I'm not the only person who thought it's a bit sharp. I still think it'd be better to have less of an edge so that you could work it effortlessly one handed.
