so i built a 10/22 in 22lr from all volquartsen parts and i'm having feeding issues with it. i've tried at least 10 different brands of ammo, so i'm fairly certain that's not the problem as none of them worked. (incl mini-mags, stinger, federal bulk and match, wolf match, aguila, etc)

i've tried several brands of magazines, including a couple hot-lips/steel-lips, and remarkably, the one magazine that almost performs reliably is the 10-rnd ruger factory mag, although it still has feeding issues


so the thing is, i can't figure out how to adjust it. when you put the barrel into the receiver, it seems as simple as tightening the two screws (which i made sure were even). there's no feed ramp, so it can't need polishing.


so my question is, how do i go about troubleshooting this?


edit: i cna't really tell what's happening, but the rounds seem to be angled up pretty far when they attemp to go into the chamber. rounds that fail to go in, typically get a dent on the bottom where they slam into the bottom of chamber. but i can't really tell why

I wonder if all your parts are proper spec. I have wondered about that when building guns from aftermarket parts.

check to make sure that the extractor on the bolt is going cleanly into the notch on the barrel. a slight turning of the barrel might be needed. also factory mags seem to work the best. they just need the mag spring tightened up a little bit. put your finger over the hex nut and loosen the allen bolt, slowly let the hex nut out and give it as many more winds as you can get on it. put it back in and tighten the allen bolt. that should help. post if it works or not. thanks.

thanks for the ideas... i putzed around with it for a little while longer then called volquartsen who very graciously agreed to take a look at it for me. i'll let you know what they say when i get it back.

I ended up with a Volquartsen 10/22 hammer that actually still had the casting seams in the metal on the face of the sear.

They have poor quality control.

I sent them e-mails outlining my dilemna which they failed to respond to.

I did finally receive a reply from them because I posted my issue on Rimfirecentral.com, where they are a sponsor. Pretty much they just said "send it back and we'll fix it for you". Multiple people responded that they also had similar issues with Volquartsen.

I ended up fixing it myself with some stones and lapping compound - I figured I'd do a better job than them, anyways.
