My New Gun! COLT COMMANDER!!! :)
Still 2 Many Choices!?
December 22, 2006, 12:21 PM
I put it on lay away on 12/16 and as usual, I couldn't wait the two months to get it out:o, so as soon as I finish typing this out I am headed to the bank, and then to the FFL to pick it up just six days later:D . This is the most expensive firearm I have ever bought at 900+ dollars(even more than my Bushmaster that was 850), but I am sure it will be money well spent. Now I am off to throw my range bag together with some .45 ACP since last time I shot my Glock 23, and head out. I will post some pics as soon as I can, probably by Saturday. Any holster suggestions are greatly appreciated, as well as ammo suggestions/ mods that will make the firearm more comfortable to carry.
I guess the 1911 bug has been going around here at THR lately, as I have never seen this many threads on one firearms type stay active for this long:) . Now I can actively participate in all the heated 1911 vs. Glock debates, as I will own representitives of both in the next hour:evil: !
Next firearm purchase....DSA FAL STG58, then I think I am set, until I get a SIG 220, a Walther P22, a wheel gun of some sort, and well..........

I am jealous!! I want a Colt Commander so bad. The best 1911 that I ever fired was a friend's Colt Commander......That is what made me fall in love with 1911's!!
I have a Springfield Loaded now and will get another Glock eventually to replace the one I sold to my father in law.
Merry Christmas

Congratulations on your choice of firearm. I bought a new Colt Combat Commander three years ago. The fit, finish, and function are excellent. Also, it is very accurate. Enjoy.

This is the most compicated firearm I have had to field stirp ever:uhoh: ...
Twist this, release that, pull this out, slide that, make sure this is down before removing barrel, man!!! I felt like I was doing a brake job for the first time:o . But after the second strip it is second nature. One question, does anyone know why my series 80 pistol reads,"Colts .45 Automatic Pistol", and not "Colt(no "s") Automatic Pistol" :scrutiny: . I notice Steel Harp's Commander reads ,"Colt", no "s". Did I get a model with a typo, or is this some Colt knock off lord forbid:cuss: !!!

Mine's an '89 model. The current ones have the NRM (New Roll Mark), and it has the "s." The whole typeset is different, as well.

I finally got to shoot my Commander! It is awesome:evil: ! Only problem so far is no Beaver tail, so I finally understand how the 1911 can bite you:what: . With the 230 grain Winchester I normally shoot in .45 ACP's, I didn't have a single malfunction with either hollow point or fmj. I need to get used to the sights but this thing is going to be scary accurate I can tell. The trigger has about 1mm or so of mush before breaking, but I can deal with it. Do you guys know if the trigger will improve after more rounds down range or maybe after getting used to it some more, I should send it to get beaver tailed and some slight trigger work? All in all, I am very happy with my firearm. Enjoy the pics and Merry Christmas to you all:) .

Welcome to the 1911 club!
I have 2, and they are my favorite guns (SW1911 ans SA Micro). While I have done improvements on both, I would suggest that you shoot it for a while before making changes. I have never experienced the hammer bite issue, ad both of mine have upswept BTs.
The trigger probably will improve from dry-firing and shooting. I added a WC Ultralight trigger to my SW1911, and am very pleased with it. Enjoy!
Regards,
Jamie
