Springfield Armory Champion next buy???

Finally accepted I just shoot Glocks or single action autos better than D/A's. This leaves me looking for a new gun thats small enough for carry, but also big enough to be comfortable and reasonably fun to shoot with at the range. About 90% decided on a "Loaded" Springfield Champion.
Kimbers series "2" thing makes me nervous. Tiny a difference as it is Colts 1/3" or so longer bbl looks better to me, but $$$ and spotty customer service rep make me kind of weak on them as well. Hoping to get out the door for $750 or less to leave me with some holster and mag money, so 4 or 5 figure guns built by odd men in enchanted mountains need not apply ;)
Any advice appreciated!

You could try a milspec. They have a great rep, they're relatively cheap so you can tweak 'em to suit you and still remain in budget.
I've got one and it's been great (except the little bit of white plastic fell outta the front sight, no issues at all). I changed a coupla things on it and I'll probably do a couple more eventually.
Also, carrying a full size 1911 is not very different than carrying a commander size. I carried a commander for awhile and when I got the milspec and wrung it out, I carried it too and it wasn't any different for me at all.
Of course, if you get a good price on the champ, I'm sure it'll be fine too.
:)
I had a Kimber CDP2 Pro. It felt great, looked cool, put holes right where they were supposed to go and jammed like a beeyatch. I have a Kimber ProCarry (series 1) in 10mm (originally .40) and have had no problems with it (aside from working out spring weight during the conversion).
The 1911 crapshoot...roll 'em.

I love mine. Buy a Wolff recoil spring and a C&S extractor and for $30.00 you should never have any serious reliability worries.

I bought a Champion and like it. As stated earlier, I had to put a different extractor on mine. (is this common to Springfield) and I put a full length guiderod on it. (I prefer them)
Nothing else done and it feeds well, shoots well.
I would rather have a Kimber for the fit and finish but the Springfield is slowly winning me over.

Thanks for the replies folks!
I've heard a lot of people in addition to sanchezero say they carry a full size as easy as a Commander length gun, maybe it's because I sit and drive a lot in my job or just bad holster selection but I never found a comfortable rig for my full size 1991
One question I would like to ask is that it seems the Champions have recently switched to a new recoil spring system. ANyone know anything about this???
