Can you use .44 Magnum dies for loading .44 Special?

Same question for .357 for .38. Also, I have dies for .45 ACP, but would like to start loading .45 Auto Rim. Do I need a new die set for it, or can I use the ACP set? Thanks.

If using the dies for a LONGER case to load a shorter case (like the .44mag dies used for .44special) may not be able to crimp...some makers used the same crimp die for both, others uses crimp dies specific to each caliber. Other than that, can adjust the dies expander and seaters to work.

Unless the dies are for 44 mag only, they will work. The only possible problem is the crimping die being so long that it will not reach the special length case.
45 ACP dies are just what you need for 45 AR. You will need a different shell holder.

Would I be better off getting seperate die sets for each?
Also, what about .45 ACP dies for .45 Auto Rim?

I checked my dies for the 44 Mag carbide dies to see if they would accomodate the 44 Special, and they will. They are RCBS 3-die carbide set for .44Mag/.44 Sp, part #18612 and require shell holder #18. I've not reloaded 44 Specials with them though. Good luck.

your best bet is to use 44 spl loads in mag cases. If you are going to load 44spl brass this is the trick I learned. If you're using a single stage press set your dies up for 44 SPL the get 3 washers 1/8' thick with a 7/8' ID place them under the locking ring to load 44 mag. If you have a progresive such as a Dillon or
Hornady LNL you need two dies sets 1 for 44 spl and 1 for 44 mag it's a pain to keep reset the dies for a progresive.

RCBS dies for .38spl/.357 and .44/spl.44mag come with a washer that you put between the die and your press. No need to get a seperate die.
I've reload lots of .38spl and .357mag (with their own brass) and never had a problem.
