I found a NIB Colt Detective Special today. Its suppossedly unfired except for the factory test fire. And it looks like it too.

Its a post '70 model with the shrouded ejector and ramp front sight with Pachmayer grips, blued finish and, of course, 2" barrel. The SN is 6679xx (the last two digits are letters).

The guy at the pawn shop that has this is asking $450 for it. I didn't ask him if he would take less, but he probably will if I pony up with cash.

What I need is a date of manufacture and approximate value (if it is NIB).

EDITED: The revolver had with it a factory instruction manual and a blue hard case with no outside label. But its one of the older blue hard cases without the foam lining and molded in the shape of the Detective Special.

The available Colt serial number ranges only go up to 1985, and yours is a later 90's gun.

Prices on guns are totally dependent on where they are for sale, and if you're willing to pay that price. You likely could find a DS somewhere else at a lower price, but the problem is in FINDING it.
The one you have locally is a known quantity.

That price MAY be a little high for a DS, but I see them sell used for similar prices.
It may not be out of line for a brand new in the box Colt Detective Special.

Make them an offer, and engage in a little "wheeling and dealing".

$450 seems high to me, but it depends on your location. I picked up a like new Colt Magnum Carry in stainless for $425, a Det. Special or SF-VI was running $350-375 in stainless.

No offense, but did you see this revolver? I didn't think so. It is NIB. I've not exactly seen this often at a pawn shop, but I have before. Its just that this is the first time I've seen it with something worth buying, except for the price.
