Gun stock wood source?

I'm getting ready to build a new stock for an AK rifle, and I need a piece of hardwood like birch.
I need a piece about 18" by 1 1/2" by 8".
I've done an online search, and can't turn up anything suitable.
Either it's not the size I need, or it's only sold in large quantities.
Anybody got any handy online sources?

Have you got a lumber company near you? They can probably order anything that you want if they don't have it in stock. Assuming that you have the tools to convert a block of wood into a stock.

Birch? For a gunstock? Yeah, I guess you could use that but a good peice of American Walnut is what you should use, if you're gonna use wood.
Walnut is quite expensive comparitively but it is the best wood for the job.
For an AK, I'd just use a prefab synthetic polymer stock, lighter too!
