Two gunshops I talked to today were quoting prices around $500.00 (460-480+ tax).

Sounded high to me.

Saw a NIB 637 at the last Houston gun show for $319. Yes, I was tempted. 642 was about $100 more.

My local store wants $490 for a 642. Their prices are always high.

I use the range, but don't buy guns from them.

A great price is $420. A fair price is $450. You could even do better online, but after transfer fees, it may not be worth it.

The 637 right now is selling at a very reasonable price, about $350, because according to a gun shop owner I deal with, S&W had an overrun and offered these to dealers at a great discount. I think it is to the credit of dealers like him that they are passing the savings along to their customers. The 642 typically sells for around $439 around here. Mike

When I was last the local Academy 3-4 months back, they had the M642 priced at $399.

Around here the high price for a 637 is about $400. I don't know about the 642.

I've seen the Academy price at $399 also. I bought one for $309 about 5 years ago. Should have invested, would have done better than my pension plan. :barf:
