Hi everyone. New guy in the fine state of Maryland. I have been searching and reading on the forum for a few weeks now. Trying to determine what would be the best all around shotgun for me and the wife for home defense. Found that the mossberg 500 bantam fits the wife really well and that seems to be pretty important to get her to enjoy shotgunning. Thinking about picking up the 12 gauge model, maybe adding a 18.5 barrel down the road or at the same time, not sure yet.

I called around looking for used 870's in MD and they are really hard to find. Valley gun didn't even have any. I live in Calvert county and for some odd reason we have no gun shops, except for a tiny one here in St. Leonard. :banghead:

I will be contributing more to the forum, but the next week or so I will be in Baltimore. Wife may have c-section on this Thurs or the next one. Then I will be home with a new baby girl. :D

Welcome aboard Saluki. We have one of our most trusted and respected members that hails from MD, Dave McCracken. I am sure as soon as he sees your post he can provide some insight to help you find places to see and hopefully try a couple shotguns.

Be very wary of handing your beloved bride a 12 or a 20 gauge pumpgun, if she is not prepared it can be quite a shock and may prevent her from shooting again. I have seen this happen, and it is really bad for all involved.

The St Charles gun club is probably the closest facility to you. There may be some good deals on guns there advertised on the bulletin board.

MD's liberal pols have ruined the police turnin market with their policy of destroying old inventory.

The gun shops around Annapolis, like Angler's on route 50, may have some used pumps. But, lots of folks are looking for same.

Once your spouse recovers and wants to shoot, PM me and maybe we can meet at PGC for a lesson. She should try different shotguns and see what she likes and what works for her.
