I have just started reloading for my 1894 to the 44 mag cartridge spec length (1.610). For fun tonight i wanted to see how long i could load a round, so with an empty case and my lead 240 gr I found the bullet would shove back into the case for an over all cartridge length of 1.725. Although, at this length the rifle would not cycle, so I backed it down to an OAL of 1.70 and the rifle seems to cycle perfectly. My question-- is this going to hurt anything? I am looking to increase accuracy, but don't need to do damage. My normal load is 18.5 gr of 2400 over a cast 240gr. Thanks for any help

As long as your ammo feeds properly, loading the cartridges a little longer than specified won't hurt anything.
